John Glasgow (Glasgow-3181) is the unique WikiTree match for the man indexed as John Glasgow in Hirmenschelis whose testament dative is in National Records of Scotland reference CC8/8/5. A higher-resolution reading changes the family reconstruction substantially:

John died in March, not November. The following year is not secure in the manuscript; he was certainly dead by the court/index date, 4 May 1577.
Margaret, his widow, has a Cochrane-like surname, probably Cochrane. It is not securely Hoghame, Hochaine or Hutcheson.
his lawful children and executors-dative were Katherine Glasgow and a second child provisionally read Androw/Andrew Glasgow, not Marjorie;
the record directly identifies John as the children's father. The pronoun before “lawful bairns” is unresolved, so it does not independently prove Margaret was their mother or identify her with the attached Margaret Hutcheson (Hutcheson-1656).

John's attached father, John Glasgow (Glasgow-1093), remains a possible father rather than a proved one. The former identification of this John as a son of Robert Glasgow (Glasgow-1096) and brother of Ninian Glasgow (Glasgow-3188) is chronologically impossible because Ninian named a living brother John in 1613.

Makes Glasgow-3163 the leading possible match for John's son Andrew by name, generation and nearby Calder geography; no record yet joins the two identities.

The estate includes livestock, grain, household goods, rent and wage debts. One debt-by-the-deceased entry names Katherin Glasgow, servant, who was owed wages. She may be the testament daughter, but the debt entry does not identify her as such.

The wider burgh reconstruction remains relevant but not identity proof. Protocol 805 (28 October 1564) records John Glasgow senior as heir to his father William in a Glasgow property block. Protocols 809–810 call him elder/senior, and protocol 2189 (17 June 1575) identifies Stephen Glasgow as the son of the late John and Jonet Spreull. Protocol 2002 (19 December 1573) places two fishers, Robert and John Glasgow, at the same Bridgegate transaction. These entries define the burgh family and a likely later appearance of its son John, but none mentions Hirmenschelis, Margaret, Katherine or Andrew.

Negative searches

All eleven published volumes of Glasgow town-clerk protocols were searched for John/Glasgow variants. None bridges the burgh son to Hirmenschelis.
The published Glasgow burgh minutes for 1574–76 and accounts for 1573–85 produced no personal entry connecting John to Calder.
The Edinburgh Commissary testament index for 1514–1600 contains John's entry but no separate widow or child entry resolving the family.
Published Calder barony-court extracts begin in 1583 and preserve no Glasgow-to-Stevenson property transfer.

Owed to John: Henry [surname illegible] in Addistoun[?]; Alexander Patersoun; William Flint[?]; William Douglas; John [surname illegible]; John Wilsoun; John Millar[?] (twice, once for a boll); John Mathie; William Weir, for half a boll of oats; [name illegible] Baillie[?]; James Mathie[?]; and [name illegible] Murray. No kinship is stated.
Owed by John: to James Stevinsoun[?] of Hirmenschelis[?] for the rest of his rent ("maill"); to Thomas Kerslaw[?], servant, for his fee; and to Katherin Glasgow, servant, for her fee. The total owed by him was £6 Scots.
Inventory: two cows at £5[?] each (£10[?]); two young cattle two years old at four merks each (£5 6s 8d[?]); a mare (value illegible); ewes and wethers (number illegible); ten bolls of oats at two merks a boll; two bolls of barley ("beir") worth £5[?] together; household utensils, furnishings and clothing.

Queried readings are marked [?]. The landlord's surname is uncertain, so a link with the James Stevinsoun of Andrew Glasgow-3163's 1597/8 testament is a lead only (inference). These are associates and estate details; they prove no relationship.

A fresh partial transcription of supplementary strip 396A identifies confirmation/administration wording, repeated Andro Huchesoun, secure bairnis and provisional Johne [huchesoun?]. The incomplete clause does not establish their parentage or roles. Its mapping to John's Image 276 is an open question for NRS, not proof of kinship or a cataloguing error.

- **Owed to John:** Henry [surname illegible] in Addistoun[?]; Alexander Patersoun; William Flint[?]; William Douglas; John [surname illegible]; John Wilsoun; John Millar[?] (twice, once for a boll); John Mathie; William Weir, for half a boll of oats; [name illegible] Baillie[?]; James Mathie[?]; and [name illegible] Murray. No kinship is stated.
- **Owed by John:** to James Stevinsoun[?] of Hirmenschelis[?] for the rest of his rent ("maill"); to Thomas Kerslaw[?], servant, for his fee; and to Katherin Glasgow, servant, for her fee. The total owed by him was £6 Scots.
