Summary of the research

Overall conclusion

William Glasgow-3522 and Margaret Herbesoun Herbison-439 are not proved as Barbara's parents. Two 1586 protocols prove that couple as parents of George Glasgow-1099 only; neither names Barbara or calls her George's sister. Son and heir does not make George an only child, but it supplies no bridge to Barbara. Preserve the populated links as uncertain while testing the positive alternative below; do not leave the fields blank merely because the current placement is weak. Barbara's birth, death and parents remain unproved.

Parent-status audit, 27 September 2026: Barbara's live father link to William is marked confident despite this unresolved identity, while her mother link to Margaret is unmarked. Barbara's profile is managed outside the project account; the relationship fields were left intact. Both attached parent links need to be treated as uncertain in research until a record bridges Barbara to this couple.

Branch and identity placement - 31 August 2026

The leading alternative family is Ninian Glasgow (Glasgow-3188)'s household or immediate collateral circle. Ninian's son Robert was a cordiner; his probable son William moved into Leith; and William's son entered a cordiner apprenticeship. The possible later Barbaras married at South Leith and to an Edinburgh cordiner. This is more specific evidence than the unsupported William-3522 attachment, but it depends partly on the unresolved identity of the three adult Barbara profiles.

The chronology permits one woman: Catharine Little was born 9 September 1611; the Wilson entry is 20 September or 26 November; and the Johnstoun marriage was in 1616. The baptism proves Johne Little as co-parent, not husband. Assessment: moderate identity hypothesis and possible Ninian daughter/niece. Do not merge or replace parents until the original 1611 entries and John Wilson's fate are resolved.
