About Jonet

Jonet Glasgow was the wife of William Pady by 19 March 1582/3 and was still his wife on 20 June 1598. William was admitted a Glasgow burgess and freeman on 17 July 1599 as the husband of a burgess's daughter. This is consistent with Jonet being the daughter of a Glasgow burgess, but the published abstract names neither the wife nor her father and therefore does not prove her parentage.

Overall conclusion

On 5 November 1600 William Pady conveyed property to himself and Margaret Playfair, his future spouse. Jonet's marriage to William had therefore ended between 20 June 1598 and 5 November 1600, whether by her death or otherwise. The record does not call William a widower, so Jonet's death should not be asserted.

The corrected reading of [Andrew Glasgow of Corsoun?]'s 1597/8 testament directly names a daughter Jonet. This profile is excluded as the present match: her documented marriage and property life is in Glasgow burgh, and no record connects her to Corsoun, Elizat Stevinsoun, Andrew's land or the other children. Jonet Glasgow who married Martin Ramsy at Mid Calder in 1624 is geographically closer but likewise lacks an identifying bridge. A distinct creation draft now represents Andrew's daughter; later direct evidence could justify a merge.

The currently attached William Glasgow is also unproved as Jonet's father. William Pady's 1599 admission as husband of a burgess's daughter supports only that his wife was a burgess's daughter; the abstract names neither the wife nor her father and cannot identify William Glasgow.
