The opening and final caution both support these household identifiers. This is a testament dative, not an independently recovered personal will. The record does not expressly make Isobell the children's mother and does not name Mary as a daughter. It supplies no new connection to John Glasgow-1030 and Jonet Mathie; the exclusion as a present profile match remains in force.

Earlier father reconstruction — superseded 28 September 2026

Father assessment: William Glasgow (about 1540) is uncertain and no longer the leading reconstruction. The profile's stated reason for the attachment is contradicted by direct records: the two men who witnessed John's son's 1619 baptism were not brothers. George was the proved son of William, while Robert was the proved son of Ninian.

The strongest alternative is that John was the otherwise unidentified brother named in Ninian Glasgow's 1613 testament. Ninian's proved father, Robert Glasgow, fisher (about 1520), is a strong father candidate for John, but the testament does not distinguish a full from a half-brother. That would make the 1619 witness Robert Glasgow (about 1583) John's nephew. This fits the records better than calling both witnesses John's brothers, but no source yet identifies the 1618 husband by occupation, father or inherited property. Retain the current relationship as uncertain unless the record-defined John is created and the identity question is resolved; do not merge the men on this evidence alone.

A FamilySearch printed testament index separately lists John Glasgow in Rashlie, parish of Kilbride, dated 17 April 1643. Glasgow-1030 is chronologically possible, but the index does not identify him; the date is not a proven death date. The entry is recorded on this profile as a possible match only.

NRS CC9/7/27, register pages 478–480, is the testament dative and inventory of John Glasgow, sailor in Saltcoats within Ardrossan parish. He died in December 1636, and the Glasgow Commissary Court proceedings followed in April 1637. The document names Isobell Gray as his widow and calls Katherine and Agnes Glasgow the lawful children of the deceased, their father. It therefore proves John as the girls' father, but does not expressly identify Isobell as their mother. Earlier alternative spouse, daughter and deceased- person readings are withdrawn.

The document is an intestate court administration, not a personal will. A John Brown or Browne appears in the financial and legal network, but no kinship is stated. An old fishing boat and equipment may appear in the inventory; that reading remains tentative and should not be quoted as secure transcription.

Glasgow-1030 was compared because his death is unknown and a later residence or marriage at Saltcoats is chronologically possible. No inspected record connects Jonet Mathie or their Glasgow children to Isobell Gray, Saltcoats, the sailor occupation, Katherine or Agnes. Name and chronology do not override those different documented household identifiers. Glasgow-1030 is excluded as the present match, and a distinct creation draft now represents the Saltcoats sailor. Do not add the Saltcoats widow or daughters here unless a later occupation, property, residence or explicit family bridge justifies a merge.

George's file notes that the index date (4 February 1627) and the biography's 2 February birth and 25 February baptism still disagree.

Three of the project's free-space pages (the Glasgow Name Study, Glasgow – Age of Discovery and The Ayrshire Crossroads) describe this John as "Jhone Glasgow M.A.", minister of Kilbirnie from 1614 to 1629. The published succession of Kilbirnie ministers does not support this. John Heriot was presented in 1586 and was dead before 25 November 1630; William Russell was probably admitted by 1619; the list contains no earlier minister named John Glasgow (John Shedden Dobie, "The Church of Kilbirnie", Archaeological and Historical Collections relating to Ayrshire and Galloway 2 (1880), pp. 113–114; a printed secondary account, read for the July 2026 review and not re-read here). The Kilbirnie ministry belongs to the later Rev. John Glasgow M.A. (Glasgow-1073), ordained there on 16 August 1688. No reviewed record gives this earlier John a Kilbirnie charge, and his M.A. is unsourced in this file.

Father assessment: [William Glasgow (about 1540)](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-3522)
is **uncertain and no longer the leading reconstruction**. The profile's stated
reason for the attachment is contradicted by direct records: the two men who
witnessed John's son's 1619 baptism were not brothers. George was the proved
son of William, while Robert was the proved son of Ninian.

The strongest alternative is that John was the otherwise unidentified brother
named in Ninian Glasgow's 1613 testament. Ninian's proved father,
[Robert Glasgow, fisher (about 1520)](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-1096),
is a strong father candidate for John, but the testament does not distinguish
a full from a half-brother.
That would make the 1619 witness [Robert Glasgow (about 1583)](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-1027)
John's nephew. This fits the records better than calling both witnesses John's
brothers, but no source yet identifies the 1618 husband by occupation, father
or inherited property. Retain the current relationship as uncertain unless the
record-defined John is created and the identity question is resolved; do not
merge the men on this evidence alone.

A FamilySearch printed testament index separately lists John Glasgow in
Rashlie, parish of Kilbride, dated 17 April 1643. Glasgow-1030 is chronologically
possible, but the index does not identify him; the date is not a proven death
date. The entry is recorded on this profile as a possible match only.

Birth-estimate audit - 21 August 2026

The live structured birth was corrected to **about 1570, uncertain**. The estimate places the candidate John in Robert the fisher's documented generation without treating a boundary as a birth fact. The earlier `before` value remains only a strict chronological boundary, not the most useful estimated birth. No biography, relationship, source or other structured field was changed in this audit.

Possible 1637 testament identity — corrected September 2026

NRS CC9/7/27, register pages 478–480, is the testament dative and inventory of
**John Glasgow, sailor in Saltcoats within Ardrossan parish**. He died in
December 1636, and the Glasgow Commissary Court proceedings followed in April
1637. The document names **Isobell Gray** as his widow and calls **Katherine
and Agnes Glasgow** the lawful children of the deceased, their father. It
therefore proves John as the girls' father, but does not expressly identify
Isobell as their mother. Earlier alternative spouse, daughter and deceased-
person readings are withdrawn.

The document is an intestate court administration, not a personal will. A John
Brown or Browne appears in the financial and legal network, but no kinship is
stated. An old fishing boat and equipment may appear in the inventory; that
reading remains tentative and should not be quoted as secure transcription.

Glasgow-1030 was compared because his death is unknown and a later residence or
marriage at Saltcoats is chronologically possible. No inspected record connects
[[Mathie-159|Jonet Mathie]] or their Glasgow children to Isobell Gray,
Saltcoats, the sailor occupation, Katherine or Agnes. Name and chronology do
not override those different documented household identifiers. Glasgow-1030 is
excluded as the present match, and a distinct creation draft now represents
the Saltcoats sailor. Do not add the Saltcoats widow or daughters here unless a
later occupation, property, residence or explicit family bridge justifies a
merge.

Mathie marriage-network lead — 30 August 2026

Jonet may belong to a Clerkland–Glencairn Mathie household documented through
John Mathie senior and junior in 1600 and two successive Glencairn servitors of
that name in 1606. The younger writer is the leading candidate for her father
or close older kinsman. January 1607 tutory retours name the deceased John
Mathie of Ibert's full brother Matthew, a Glasgow burgess, and John's lawful
children James, David, Agnes and Margaret. Jonet is not named, so she should
not be attached as his daughter; she could have been older than the children
requiring tutory or belonged to the younger writer's household. This would
place John's marriage within the same
Glencairn network as the Stevenston/Corsankell Glasgows, while Robert's direct
1554 association with David Mathy provides an independent link from John's
probable paternal family. Treat this as a coherent working reconstruction, not
as permission to attach Jonet to an unproved father.

This was a review of existing citations; no new image was inspected. George's file notes that the index date (4 February 1627) and the biography's 2 February birth and 25 February baptism still disagree.

Identity assessment — not minister of Kilbirnie in 1614–29, 19 July 2026

Three of the project's free-space pages (the Glasgow Name Study, *Glasgow – Age of Discovery* and *The Ayrshire Crossroads*) describe this John as "Jhone Glasgow M.A.", minister of Kilbirnie from 1614 to 1629. The published succession of Kilbirnie ministers does not support this. **John Heriot** was presented in 1586 and was dead before 25 November 1630; William Russell was probably admitted by 1619; the list contains no earlier minister named John Glasgow (John Shedden Dobie, "The Church of Kilbirnie", *Archaeological and Historical Collections relating to Ayrshire and Galloway* 2 (1880), [pp. 113–114](https://aanhs.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/ahcaw.2.1880.kilbirniekirk.jsdobie.111-135.pdf); a printed secondary account, read for the July 2026 review and not re-read here). The Kilbirnie ministry belongs to the later Rev. John Glasgow M.A. ([Glasgow-1073](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-1073)), ordained there on 16 August 1688. No reviewed record gives this earlier John a Kilbirnie charge, and his M.A. is unsourced in this file.
