WikiTree parent-status audit, 27 September 2026: the attached mother Esbell Brade (Brade-232) is now marked uncertain. No inspected record directly calls Robert her son; the relationship remains a family reconstruction.

Father assessment: William Glasgow (1500) is probable on strong circumstantial evidence, not proved by an explicit kinship formula.

This is stronger than a bare chronology-and-surname placement. William's proved son John Glasgow and Robert repeatedly occupied the same compact south-burgh property network in 1557-73. Their lands bounded the same tenements in 1557 and 1560. In 1568/69 Robert sold the St Roche/late Andrew Dunlop parcel adjoining John's land; the same parcel returned through the Rowands in 1572/73, when a John Glasgow, fisher, witnessed the transaction. Robert and John were then described together as fishers in 1573. Robert had already witnessed Archibald Glasgow's 1551 purchase, whose exact east-side parcel was in John's hands by 1554/55. The combined pattern is that of one close surname, craft and property group, not three isolated men.

The 1573 fisher entry also names Archibald Herbertsone between Robert and John, after Archibald and Robert had already recurred together as witnesses in 1559/60 and 1567. Archibald is the record-proved husband of Isobella Glasgow, who is independently a probable daughter of William because her husband witnessed John's disposal of William's inherited parcel in 1564. This creates a repeated Robert–John–Isobella/Archibald cluster rather than a merely bilateral Robert–John association, materially strengthening the proposed sibling group while still supplying no explicit kin term.

Male primogeniture also explains why only John was later served heir to William's inherited tenement: that inheritance does not exclude younger sons who established neighbouring holdings. The competing explanations remain that the fisher John was Robert's own son, or that Robert was a cousin or unrelated namesake. Because two generations of adult Johns overlapped, the evidence does not justify a certain WikiTree status. It does justify retaining William as Robert's uncertain father while describing the relationship as probable.

Marion Glasgow-3062 is confidently inferred to be Robert’s daughter: the 1596 burgess roll identifies Ninian as Robert’s second son, and Ninian’s 1613 testament expressly calls Marion his sister. Their shared surname and compatible chronology support the common father, with no concrete alternative known. This is an inference from combined records; Marion’s mother remains uncertain.

Robert is directly proved to have had Ninian as a son. The 1596 burgess admission calls Ninian Glasgow (Glasgow-3188) Robert's second son. Ninian's 1613 testament independently names "Johne Glasgw his brother." That proves Ninian had a brother John alive on 10 January 1613, but does not say whether John was a full or half-brother. Robert is therefore a strong father candidate for John, not a directly proved father; nor does second son establish whether John was older or younger than Ninian.

Margaret Rolland (Rolland-239), born about 1535, Glasgow is Robert's confirmed spouse. Protocols 1903, 1904 and 2125 call the couple spouses. Protocol 2002 identifies Robert among the fishers, matching the 1596 occupation and resolving the property-holder to this profile. Robert was alive on 7 February 1574/75, so the live after 1572 death boundary is obsolete.

Elizabeth Glasgow, widow of Alexander Kaine is a new possible daughter, not a proved child. Ninian's sons Robert and William each have a daughter whose name is recorded as Elizabeth/Elizabethe or Bessie. This independent repetition makes Elizabeth worth testing as Ninian's missing older sister. It remains only a naming-pattern hypothesis: Elizabeth's current before 1530 birth is no more than ten years after Robert's approximate 1520 birth, and no source links the Easter Corswood widow to Robert's Glasgow household.

The unresolved identification is the John in the Bridgegait/fisher acts: the records also contain John senior, his adult son John, and deceased John boundary owners. No inspected act uniquely joins the Bridgegait John to the Saltmarket son-and-heir of William. Robert's proposed father therefore still depends on both that identity and the exact kinship degree. The newly located protocol 2370 (18 January 1581/82) extends Archibald Herbertsoun's fisher/Bridgegait network, but does not supply either missing link. William remains the leading probable father.

Kilbride identity — merged 27 September 2026

Glasgow-3919 was merged into this profile as the leading identity of Robert Glasgow named among occupiers of Kilbride church lands in a charter dated 9 February 1580. The 1575 Glasgow property record and 1580 charter are five years apart; the rare name and Mathie–Glencairn association support one man. The charter does not state his occupation, wife or former city residence, so this remains a probable cross-record identification. The 1580 occurrence is preserved in the live WikiTree biography with the exact Great Seal charter citation, vol. 5, no. 324. If the identification is correct, Robert was alive after 9 February 1580; his death is otherwise unknown.

Kilbride identity — merged 27 September 2026

Glasgow-3919 was merged into this profile as the leading identity of Robert Glasgow named among occupiers of Kilbride church lands in a charter dated 9 February 1580. The 1575 Glasgow property record and 1580 charter are five years apart; the rare name and Mathie–Glencairn association support one man. The charter does not state his occupation, wife or former city residence, so this remains a probable cross-record identification. The 1580 occurrence is preserved in the live WikiTree biography with the exact [Great Seal charter citation](https://archive.org/details/registrummagnisi05scot/page/104/mode/2up), vol. 5, no. 324. If the identification is correct, Robert was alive after 9 February 1580; his death is otherwise unknown.
