James Glasgow

Biography
James Glasgow was born about 1799, probably in Derryloran parish, County Tyrone. James Glasgow, death registration, 1882, age 83, Cookstown registration district (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/0d5b276551918) at Irish Civil Registration - Deaths. 

The St Luran, Derryloran parish register records a James Glasgow, son of William and Mary Glasgow, baptised on 21 August 1799. Representative Church Body Library, Derryloran Parish Register, Volume 1, published transcription, p. 3 (https://www.churchofireland.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/DerryloranVol1.pdf#page=11), accessed 17 July 2026. This is a strong candidate for this James. His later marriage record independently names his father as William Glasgow, farmer, while his recorded ages in 1851 and 1882 both indicate a birth about 1799. The baptism gives no place of residence, however, so the identification is probable rather than conclusive.

On 29 November 1851, James, a widower aged 50 and resident at Ballynasollus, married Nancy McCord, aged 26, of Ballynasollus. She was the daughter of James McCord, farmer. The witnesses were George Glasgow and Samuel Allen. James died on 15 March 1882 at Ballynasollus, reportedly aged 83. His son Thomas Glasgow was present at the death. 
Research NotesParentage
James's 1851 marriage record confirms that his father was named William Glasgow and was a farmer. 

The 1799 baptism candidate names the child's parents as William and Mary Glasgow. If this baptism belongs to James, his mother was Mary, surname unknown.

The available records do not establish that James's father was specifically William Glasgow (abt.1760-), whose profile reportedly claims a Scottish origin based only on an online family tree. A documentary link between that William and this James has not been found.

The former attachment of Margaret Mitchell as James's mother is unsupported by an original record and conflicts with the strong baptism candidate naming his mother as Mary. Margaret Mitchell should therefore not be treated as James's mother without further evidence.

The other children attributed to the same tree-derived parents are likewise unproved as James's siblings. Each requires independent evidence before a shared nuclear family can be established.
Nancy McCord's children
Nancy's 1911 census return states that she had five children, of whom three were still living. Two of the surviving children are believed to have been Margaret Jane and Thomas, leaving one surviving child of Nancy not yet identified. Marriage records for people surnamed Glasgow who named their father as James may help identify that child.

There is a possible candidate, Mary Ann Glasgow (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/6567713134957), who married David Bell in 1867 and named her father as James Glasgow. Her residence was recorded as Killycurragh, however, so this is not sufficient evidence to identify her as a daughter of this James.
Explanation of children
The following people recorded Ballynasollus as their residence on marriage and named their father as James Glasgow:

Thomas Glasgow (abt.1860-aft.1935) is identified as a son of Nancy through census evidence. Thomas was also the informant at the deaths of both this James and James's son James. He was still living in 1935, when he attended the funeral of Martha Glasgow. No other Thomas Glasgow found in the census or civil death registrations appears to fit this evidence.

John Glasgow (abt.1824-1906) and Margaret Jane are identified as siblings because the funeral of John's daughter Jane was attended by Cunningham Glasgow.

John's daughter Ellen was the informant at Nancy Glasgow's death and was described as Nancy's granddaughter. Thomas Glasgow later appeared at Ellen's funeral. Taken together, this supports John being a son of James, although the precise relationship evidence should remain documented rather than assumed solely from patronymics.

The following person has not been attached as a child because his marriage record gives Killycurragh as his residence. Griffith's Valuation shows that other men named James Glasgow were associated with Killycurragh, so further evidence is required:
