Joseph Ellsworth Glasgow Sr

Biography
Joseph was born December 22, 1861 in Brownville, Nemaha, Nebraska. Iowa, U.S., Marriage Records, 1880-1951 for Joseph E. Glasgon He was the third child and first son of William Glasgow and Sarah Majors having been preceded by the births of sisters Margarette (1859) and Ida (1860). He was their third living child and first son.

On January 20, 1855, he married Sarah Elizabeth Wallingford in Washington, Iowa, where her parents lived (and where his father's family had settled after moving to Iowa from Adams County, Ohio). Iowa, U.S., Marriage Records, 1880-1951 for Joseph E. Glasgon 

Joe and Lizzie had six children, including two sets of twins: Hiram Gilbert (b 1886), Iva Olive and Ida May (b 1889), Harriet Gene and Hal Wallingford (b 1894), and Joseph Ellsworth, Jr (b 1896).

Joe was an amazing serial entrepreneur, starting one business after another (as well documented in the Peru Pointer). Some of his businesses including selling walnut, making bricks, carpentry and general construction.

Like many in both his Majors and Glasgow extended family, he did a lot of civic service and political work, including serving on the Peru School Board and as part of the 1904 Republican delegation from Nemaha County.

He ultimately moved his family to Humboldt, Nebraska, which is where he died on August 17, 1931.
