Biography
Alexander Glasgow was born about 1816 in County Antrim, Ireland. The 1851
census gave his birthplace as Runflea, County Antrim, and his age as thirty-

Alexander married Mary Anne Martin on 6 April 1847 at Clogh.
The original register describes him as a full-age bachelor and labourer living
at Glenleslie. His father was John Glasgow, labourer. Mary Anne was a
full-age spinster and daughter of John Martin, labourer. Peter Richmond and John
Montgomery witnessed the marriage. In 1851 Alexander was an agricultural labourer at Glenleslie. Mary Anne, aged twenty-seven and born in County Armagh, worked as a linen weaver. Their son John Glasgow was two years old and born in County Antrim.

Father
Alexander's marriage proves that his father was named John Glasgow and
worked as a labourer. No inspected record gives the older John's age, wife or
residence.

John Glasgow of Lisnagaver is currently attached as Alexander's father. However, that John's family gravestone places his birth about 1816 or 1817, while the conflicting 1851 return places it about 1801. Neither date permits him to be Alexander's father. The link is retained only as uncertain until the older John named in the marriage record can be identified. John Glasgow of Glenleslie is old enough to be the father named
in 1847, but he was recorded as a farmer rather than a labourer and no record
calls Alexander his son. He remains a possible local candidate rather than an
identified parent.

Earlier notes compared Alexander with Alexander Pitcairn Glasgow, a Scottish child baptised in 1811, Alexander Glasgow of Lisnagaver, and another Alexander Glasgow born about 1815. The original 1847 marriage and the Glenleslie household define this Alexander as an adult labourer with wife Mary Anne Martin and son John; no inspected record establishes any of those same-name profiles as this man.
