(1) The Rasharkin GLASGO memorial's "Elizabeth Ann, died 16 June 1933 aged 84" is James Garvin Glasgow's widow Eliza Ann (Aiken): PRONI Will Calendar, Glasgow, Eliza Ann, of Tullynahinion, widow, d. 16 June 1933, probate Belfast 17 July 1933 to Robert Andrew Aicken, farmer, and William Shaw, solicitor (£601 5s); James Garvin Glasgow's estate (d. 14 Feb 1918, Lisnagaver) was administered 8 May 1918 by Eliza Ann Glasgow, widow (£310). The citation's "Lizzie, child of John Glasgow" is therefore not the memorial's Elizabeth Ann and remains unidentified. (2) The 3 October 1887 Lisnagaver birth (Dirraw entry 352) is John Garvin Glasgow, son of James Glasgow, farmer, and Eliza Ann formerly Eakin — this is the exact birth date for the existing profile Glasgow-4005 (which had only the gravestone's undated "infant son John Garvin"), a son of James Garvin, not a child of Alexander's line; he is absent from the 1901/1911 household. (5) Mary Anne M'Caughern, witness at Ann Glasgow's 1875 marriage, is the granddaughter and residuary heir named in the 1881 will of James Dysart of Crushybracken (husband of Jane Glasgow) — a documented tie between this household and the Dysart family.

Summary of the research

Overall conclusion

17 September 2026 — sibling identification from Nancy Glasgow's probate citation. The 14 January 1892 Clinton County citation in the estate of Nancy Glasgow (Glasgow-4070) lists "James G. Glasgow, Ann and Lizzie, the children of John Glasgow, late of Baladonly, county Antrim" among Nancy's heirs or next of kin. James Garvin Glasgow and Ann (Bellingham) provide a probable match to this John's household; "Lizzie" remains unidentified. The citation supports a probable deceased-brother relationship to Nancy, not a direct statement of it. The proposed match is compatible with the 24 June 1885 Lisnagaver death; the discrepancy with the memorial transcription's 1895 must be resolved from the death and memorial evidence rather than presumed citation completeness. "Baladonly" probably represents Ballydonnelly, but John's association with that townland remains unexplained. The same citation names children of Alexander, Robert, Jane Dysart, Ann McClelland and Mary Thompson, and Andersons at Gortahar (Elizabeth's name is supplied by other records).

21 September 2026 — probate evidence audit. John's 1846 marriage directly names his father John Glasgow, farmer, and the 1851 census directly makes Samuel his brother. Those findings stand. Extending that father to the probable Nancy/Alexander sibling network is conditional: the citation does not distinguish paternal from maternal half-kin, and siblinghood is not necessarily transitive. The proposed father represented by Glasgow-4090 is not thereby identified with the 1796 Desertoghill flax-premium recipient. No automatic parent replacement follows. The January newspaper image was rechecked in the Nancy dossier; obtain the underlying petition/heir schedule and resolve Ballydonnelly before strengthening this extension. The 5 September master review confirms the direct John–Samuel brotherhood and John's named father, but it does not identify that older John as Glasgow-1022. Retain the profile attachment only as uncertain. Adjacent Lisnagaver households and consecutive holdings do not extend the proved brotherhood to Alexander or Thomas.

John Glasgow of Lisnagaver directly identified his father as John Glasgow, farmer, in his 1846 marriage. His brother Samuel is proved by the 1851 census. The Rasharkin Second Presbyterian gravestone erected by John's son James Garvin Glasgo gives John's death as 20 June 1895, aged 78 (probably an error for 1885; see the correction of 7 October 2026 below), and identifies Margaret Garvin as James's mother. It therefore gives John an approximate birth year of 1816/17, although the 1851 return reported his age as fifty.

The later date makes John Glasgow-1022 a less comfortable father candidate: he would have been about sixty-five when this John was born. That remains possible, especially because early Irish ages are inconsistent, but the shared name and occupation no longer make the identity the clear leading solution. Keep the link uncertain.

Alexander Glasgow-2385 cannot be this John's son. Alexander was already a full-age bachelor in April 1847 and named his own father as John Glasgow, labourer. John Glasgow-867 had married only five months earlier and was himself probably born about 1817. Alexander belongs to a different father-John branch.

Source findingsFindmypast sweep — 7 October 2026: a candidate for "Lizzie"

The citation's "Lizzie", child of John Glasgow, now has a later-life candidate. Elizabeth Glasgow, head of household, 80 (born c.1860), single, born Northern Ireland, was at Cohoes Ward 3, Albany County, New York, in the 1940 US census, in the same house in 1935 (Findmypast transcript USC/1940/1558009575).

  • Cohoes adjoins West Troy, where Lizzie Glasgow, 21, an Irish-born domestic with both parents born in Ireland, was in James O. Wood's household in 1880 (USC/1880/1000137198536).
  • A Lizzie Glasgow, 22, of Ireland, arrived at New York on the Algeria in 1878 (US/PASS/NY/012214849261).
  • Ages differ by a few years across the records. Her death record in Cohoes (1940s) is the test for her parents. Unproved.

  • Ann Glasgow-1371 is John's proved daughter. Her maternity is strongly supported by the 1851 household but not named in her marriage.
  • James Garvin Glasgow-2406 is proved as the son of John and Margaret by the combined marriage and gravestone evidence.
  • Samuel Glasgow-2908 is John's proved brother.
  • John Glasgow-1022 may remain as an uncertain father, but the gravestone date lowers the confidence of that identification.
  • Alexander Glasgow-2385 was detached as John's son. He is a different adult son of a John Glasgow, labourer.
Remaining parentage problem

The named father was a John Glasgow who worked as a farmer by 1846. The evidence does not give his residence, wife or age. If John and Samuel shared a father, that man must have been capable of fathering Samuel, born about 1791, and John, whose sources disagree between about 1801 and about 1817. The Killoquin estate tenant books for 1772-74 and 1835 are the most promising source for separating the local John households.

  • The Drogheda Argus and Leinster Journal, 1850-10-19, p.2: no longer a candidate for this profile. Drogheda Argus court report (19 Oct 1850): Sub-constable John Glasgow of the Drogheda police caught an oatmeal thief. No existing WikiTree John fits a constable serving at Drogheda in 1850, and the obvious namesakes conflict.

In the WikiTree snapshot of 28 September 2026, John Glasgow-1022's father is John Glasgow-3959 of Ballyboggy (uncertain), and John Glasgow-867 and Samuel Glasgow-2908 are attached to John Glasgow-4090, the record-defined John Glasgow, farmer. John-1022 is a disfavoured identity for that father: his 1851 Glenleslie household records a daughter Nancy who died in 1847 aged 36, while Nancy of Plattsburgh, Alexander Glasgow-951's probable sister, lived to 1891. The attachment to William Glasgow-1505 of Larne described above is historical, and the "William of Larne → John of Glenleslie → John of Lisnagaver" route no longer describes either the tree or the research.

Original 1851 image and age conflict (24 August 2026)

The original house 34 manuscript confirms the reported ages as John 50, Margaret 30, daughter Ann 3 and brother Samuel 60. Samuel's age was misread as 6 in one electronic transcription. John and Margaret both reported marriage in 1846, matching the civil marriage and making this the Margaret Garvin household.

The Rasharkin Presbyterian gravestone transcription nevertheless says that Margaret Garvin's husband John died on 20 June 1895 aged 78, implying birth about 1816/17 rather than about 1800/01. The two ages remain irreconcilable on present evidence. John's birth should not be narrowed from either source alone. The reverse of the census return names no household deaths in 1841-51 and therefore supplies no parent.

Recommended correction — John's death in 1885, 7 October 2026The original civil death register (Dervock registrar's district, entry 2; group registration ID 6910472) records John Glasgow, married farmer, who died at Lisnagaver on 24 June 1885, aged 78 .

The original civil death register (Dervock registrar's district, entry 2; group registration ID 6910472) records John Glasgow, married farmer, who died at Lisnagaver on 24 June 1885, aged 78. The informant was James Glasgow, son, of Lisnagaver. The entry was read from the register image for Glasgow-3474 (29 August 2026) and again in the Glasgow-951 searches of 23 September 2026. The irishgenealogy.ie index of Glasgow deaths in Ballymoney registration district, 1864–1910, searched on 17 September 2026, has this John (1885, aged 78) and no John Glasgow in 1895.

This is probably the death of this John. He was a married farmer of Lisnagaver; his son James Garvin Glasgow was a farmer of Lisnagaver when he married in 1886; and the register's age, 78, is the age on the family gravestone. The gravestone transcription's "20 June 1895, aged 78" is therefore probably an error for 1885, although the stone itself has not been seen. This is an inference, graded probable: the register names no wife or parent. The 17 September 2026 live-session log reports that Glasgow-3474 was merged into this profile with the 1885 death kept, and the edit register lists that merge as done; the 21 September audit noted that it had not re-verified the identification. On this reading, statements above that John died in 1895, that he was born about 1816–17, or that the two dates remain to be resolved are superseded. A smaller age conflict remains: the register's 78 implies birth about 1806–07, the 1851 census (aged fifty) about 1800–01.

Effect on relationships

- Margaret Garvin is John's proved wife.
- Ann `Glasgow-1371` is John's proved daughter. Her maternity is strongly
  supported by the 1851 household but not named in her marriage.
- James Garvin `Glasgow-2406` is proved as the son of John and Margaret by the
  combined marriage and gravestone evidence.
- Samuel `Glasgow-2908` is John's proved brother.
- John `Glasgow-1022` may remain as an uncertain father, but the gravestone date
  lowers the confidence of that identification.
- Alexander `Glasgow-2385` was detached as John's son. He is a different
  adult son of a John Glasgow, labourer.

Remaining parentage problem

The named father was a John Glasgow who worked as a farmer by 1846. The evidence
does not give his residence, wife or age. If John and Samuel shared a father, that man must have been capable
of fathering Samuel, born about 1791, and John, whose sources disagree
between about 1801 and about 1817. The Killoquin estate tenant books for 1772-74
and 1835 are the most promising source for separating the local John households.

Original 1851 image and age conflict (24 August 2026)

The original house 34 manuscript confirms the reported ages as **John 50**,
**Margaret 30**, daughter Ann 3 and brother **Samuel 60**. Samuel's age was
misread as `6` in one electronic transcription. John and Margaret both reported
marriage in 1846, matching the civil marriage and making this the Margaret
Garvin household.

The Rasharkin Presbyterian gravestone transcription nevertheless says that
Margaret Garvin's husband John died on 20 June 1895 aged 78, implying birth
about 1816/17 rather than about 1800/01. The two ages remain irreconcilable on
present evidence. John's birth should not be narrowed from either source alone.
The reverse of the census return names no household deaths in 1841-51 and
therefore supplies no parent.

- [The Drogheda Argus and Leinster Journal, 1850-10-19, p.2](https://www.newspapers.com/image/1259561281/): no longer a candidate for this profile. Drogheda Argus court report (19 Oct 1850): Sub-constable John Glasgow of the Drogheda police caught an oatmeal thief. No existing WikiTree John fits a constable serving at Drogheda in 1850, and the obvious namesakes conflict.

Relationship assessment — superseded attachments, 6 October 2026

In the WikiTree snapshot of 28 September 2026, John Glasgow-1022's father is John Glasgow-3959 of Ballyboggy (uncertain), and John Glasgow-867 and Samuel Glasgow-2908 are attached to John Glasgow-4090, the record-defined John Glasgow, farmer. John-1022 is a disfavoured identity for that father: his 1851 Glenleslie household records a daughter Nancy who died in 1847 aged 36, while Nancy of Plattsburgh, Alexander Glasgow-951's probable sister, lived to 1891. The attachment to William Glasgow-1505 of Larne described above is historical, and the "William of Larne → John of Glenleslie → John of Lisnagaver" route no longer describes either the tree or the research.

Source findings

### Findmypast sweep — 7 October 2026: a candidate for "Lizzie"

The citation's "Lizzie", child of John Glasgow, now has a later-life candidate. **Elizabeth Glasgow**, head of household, 80 (born c.1860), single, born Northern Ireland, was at Cohoes Ward 3, Albany County, New York, in the 1940 US census, in the same house in 1935 (Findmypast transcript `USC/1940/1558009575`).

- Cohoes adjoins West Troy, where Lizzie Glasgow, 21, an Irish-born domestic with both parents born in Ireland, was in James O. Wood's household in 1880 (`USC/1880/1000137198536`).
- A Lizzie Glasgow, 22, of Ireland, arrived at New York on the *Algeria* in 1878 (`US/PASS/NY/012214849261`).
- Ages differ by a few years across the records. Her death record in Cohoes (1940s) is the test for her parents. Unproved.

Recommended correction — John's death in 1885, 7 October 2026

The [original civil death register](https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/deaths_returns/deaths_1885/06280/4799372.pdf) (Dervock registrar's district, entry 2; group registration ID 6910472) records **John Glasgow, married farmer, who died at Lisnagaver on 24 June 1885, aged 78**. The informant was **James Glasgow, son, of Lisnagaver**. The entry was read from the register image for Glasgow-3474 (29 August 2026) and again in the Glasgow-951 searches of 23 September 2026. The irishgenealogy.ie index of Glasgow deaths in Ballymoney registration district, 1864–1910, searched on 17 September 2026, has this John (1885, aged 78) and no John Glasgow in 1895.

This is probably the death of this John. He was a married farmer of Lisnagaver; his son James Garvin Glasgow was a farmer of Lisnagaver when he married in 1886; and the register's age, 78, is the age on the family gravestone. The gravestone transcription's "20 June 1895, aged 78" is therefore probably an error for 1885, although the stone itself has not been seen. This is an inference, graded probable: the register names no wife or parent. The 17 September 2026 live-session log reports that Glasgow-3474 was merged into this profile with the 1885 death kept, and the edit register lists that merge as done; the 21 September audit noted that it had not re-verified the identification. On this reading, statements above that John died in 1895, that he was born about 1816–17, or that the two dates remain to be resolved are superseded. A smaller age conflict remains: the register's 78 implies birth about 1806–07, the 1851 census (aged fifty) about 1800–01.
