Current conclusion

John Glasgow of Ballyboggy is directly documented as an adult co-lessee in 1740.
The matching order of the Protestant Householders' Return and same-day Ballyboggy
lease groups strongly identifies him with `Joh Glask` in Dunaghy parish.

He is currently attached as an uncertain working son of `Glasgow-3990`, the
unidentified younger namesake implied by John `Glasgow-3913` being called senior.
No historical record proves this attachment. Different districts and no shared
associates leave the proposed relationship uncertain; the 1733 Kilroot deceased
estate must not be identified with the personally active 1740 lessee without
resolving that chronological conflict.

John is also the earliest directly documented member of the local
Ballyboggy-Glenleslie Glasgow-Alexander-Wier tenant network. Ballyboggy borders
Glenleslie. The 1740 householders' sequence `Thomas Alexander - Joh Glask - Joh
Wier` closely matches the separate same-day lease group. In 1825 James Glasgow
and James Glasgow junior occur in Ballyboggy among Alexander and Wier occupiers,
while Robert Glasco occurs separately at Doonbought in the same Dunaghy parish.
In 1851 adjacent Glenleslie households contain John Glasgow and Rose Alexander,
George Glasgow and Sarah Alexander, and John's brother-in-law William Alexander
by an unspecified route. A
further Dunaghy household at Cloughgaldenagh is already represented by William
`Glasgow-1387`, wife Ellin and their eight children; it is not an unprofiled
branch.

This is meaningful continuity of an extended local network, not a proved line
of descent. John-3959 could be an ancestor or collateral relative of John-1022,
and the two 1825 Jameses could bridge the generations, but father-son wording
has not been found. Existing uncertain upstream alternatives for John-1022 can
therefore remain open.

Next proof target

1. Transcribe the three lives, ages, witnesses and endorsements in
   `D2223/15/56`.
2. Trace the 1825 James Glasgow and James Glasgow junior through
   estate rentals, valuation continuation, church records and probate.
3. Trace the eight children of William `Glasgow-1387` through marriages, deaths
   and migration records. Their records may distinguish William's father from
   the 1825 Dunaghy candidates.
4. Inspect the Crawford and Glasgow family papers, PRONI `D2003 [MIC128]`.
   Rev. A. R. Crawford compiled five family-history volumes after returning from
   Manchuria: three Crawford volumes and two Glasgow histories. Dr J. C. C.
   Crawford later supplied typescript copies and additional genealogical
   material. Request both Glasgow volumes and the later typescripts/additions,
   not merely a single “notebook.” This description is documented in the

Archive access status

PRONI describes its attached spreadsheet as the comprehensive list of records
digitally available through the eCatalogue. `D2003/MIC128`, `D2223/15/56`,
`D300/1/5/49` and the relevant Larne lease files are absent from the current
[digitised-records inventory](https://www.proni.gov.uk/publications/digitised-and-born-digital-records-available-ecatalogue).
Their catalogue descriptions are public, but manuscript contents have not been
viewed in this research. Copies or a PRONI visit are required.

1733 index audit — 21 September 2026

The official detail now identifies the event as a Connor diocesan administration
bond, not a read will. No administrator, occupation or relative is named. PRONI
reports the original lost; the outstanding question is identity through independent
estate or church evidence, not inspection of a surviving bond linked by this index.
The 1733 deceased-estate occurrence should not be identified with the man personally
co-leasing Ballyboggy in 1740 without resolving that chronological conflict. All

Unresolved — Wier co-lessee and duplicate checks, 6 August 2026

The PRONI catalogue of lease `D2223/15/56` names John's co-lessee as **James Wier**, while the 1740 householder transcription has **Joh Wier** next to `Joh Glask`. The original lease should be read before deciding whether these were two men or whether one forename was miscatalogued or mistranscribed.

Bounded negative results, 6 August 2026: live WikiTree searches for John Glasgow, Glask, Glasco and Glascow with early County Antrim dates found no compatible earlier profile; [Glasgow-1022](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-1022), [Glasgow-1146](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-1146) and [Glasgow-1657](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-1657) were born too late to be the 1740 householder. The repository's One Tree export and research files held no profile for James or John Wier of Ballyboggy and no Antrim Weir/Wier of a compatible generation, and none of the 75 locally captured descendants of John Glasgow of Glenleslie (Glasgow-1022) had a Weir/Wier spouse or middle name. This is a negative from the repository snapshot, not proof that no Glasgow–Wier marriage occurred. The repository's positive Glasgow–Weir links (Stevenston 1605, seventeenth-century Midlothian, and later County Tyrone) are separate clusters.
