Summary of the research

Overall conclusion

The bounded 13 September public search recovered no independent source behind the 2007 parent names or reported October 1822 death. Search-indexed text from the Genes Reunited thread expressly describes its 2020 restatement as a copy of the first post, so it cannot count as an independent witness. Direct page retrieval failed in this session; the completed 12 September thread and FamilySearch review is reused, not claimed as a newly inspected original. The derivative Rosanna tree's 28 October 1822 conflicts with the post's approximate 23 October date. Neither date nor the surname Shaw is established by an original record.

The live WikiTree API on 13 September still supplies an October 23, 1822 death for Rosanna and estimated 1770 birth years for both spouses. These are stored profile claims, not new evidence. No live changes were made. See the dated source-search log for exact queries, access limits and remaining records.

The best surviving record now identified for testing this reconstructed family is PRONI's Ballymoney Reformed Presbyterian register, CR5/32/1/1/1-2 (1804-1844). Its society lists, baptisms, deaths and removals span younger Alexander's and Thomas's probable births and Rosanna's reported 1822 death. A targeted surname-variant and family-group request was sent to PRONI on 19 August 2026; no result has yet been received. The register is a pending direct-evidence target, not present proof of the older couple.

No contemporary record identifies Alexander Glasgow as a son of Adam Glasgow of Inishrush. The proposed older Alexander is reconstructed chiefly from a 2007 descendant account naming Alexander and Rosanna as parents of Thomas of Lisnagaver. Daniel's original will and Daniel Neely's marriage now resolve the former topology conflict by proving Daniel and Thomas were brothers. Daniel and Thomas may remain uncertain children because they are proved brothers and the descendant account names Thomas's parents. Younger Alexander Glasgow-951 may remain only a possible brother or cousin and uncertain working child, but no contemporary record proves the parent edge.

The 13 September comparative review retains this pair as the first named-couple hypothesis to investigate through Thomas, not a demonstrably most-likely pair for Alexander-951. His same-parent relationship to Thomas is still unproved; even paternal half-brotherhood would not establish Rosanna as his mother.

Identity and family

Larne parentage and the unresolved upstream connection

The 13 September catalogue review gives this older Alexander a coherent possible place beside Adam of Inishrush, rather than necessarily beneath him. If James of Larne (Glasgow-1509), reportedly born in 1737, fathered Adam about 1758 and this Alexander about 1770, the intervals are about 21 and 33 years. Adam born about 1758 would instead be only twelve at a 1770 Alexander birth, while Rose born about 1767 would be three. Their dates are estimates, but the sibling or cousin version avoids the extra conditions needed for an Adam-to-Alexander parent link. No record yet proves James as either man's father. The chain James-1509 → older Alexander-3904 → younger Alexander-951 was proposed on 13 September to accommodate the late account naming Alexander and Rosanna as Thomas's parents, if younger Alexander shared that family. It stood beside James-1509 → younger James-3986 → Alexander-951. Both were withdrawn as routes on 6 October 2026, because Alexander-951's probable father is John Glasgow, farmer, and each chain puts a different man in his place (see the assessment of that date below). Thomas and Daniel's proved brotherhood does not itself name their father.

The American branch is Robert-1143 → James-1144 → Archibald-2304 → possible Robert-2769 → possible James J-2738. The first two connections have concordant record support. The missing boy in Archibald's 1800 household, Robert's South Carolina birth and James J's later chronology give the next two a positive household-and-migration fit. Robert is proposed only as James J's father. The earlier hypothetical transatlantic common-father comparison is irrelevant to this model and is withdrawn.

The close descendant FT20271/STR connection makes the two branches useful comparisons. Their named common ancestor remains unresolved, including the proposed parentage of James-1509 and Robert-1143 within the older Larne family. DNA does not force a particular early-1700s man, but it supports pursuing this family reconstruction rather than treating the uncertain generations as grounds to abandon it.

Parentage and cluster conclusionAlexander remains unproved as Adam's son.

Alexander remains unproved as Adam's son. Adam is a weak direct-father hypothesis; preserve existing uncertain attachments while comparing the sibling or cousin alternative. Rose, Adam's wife, presents a serious chronology conflict: she was born about 1767, while Alexander needed to be born by about 1778 at the latest to father Daniel about 1795/96. Adam could only be a speculative young father by an earlier woman. No new maternal attachment or destructive tree change follows from this review. Brother, cousin or more distant collateral is at least as plausible as Adam being the father.

The working family belongs in the standalone Bann Valley-Killoquin / Kilrea- Rasharkin cluster. The 1834 occupier may be this older Alexander or his younger namesake; the evidence does not choose. No record bridges this cluster to the Kilwaughter Antrim Founders, Derry Main, Moneymore or Inishrush line.

Alexander should therefore be treated as the earliest presently identifiable head of this branch, not forced beneath Adam of Inishrush or John of Glenleslie. The best working reconstruction places Daniel and Thomas as uncertain sons because they are independently proved brothers and descendant testimony names Alexander and Rosanna as Thomas's parents. younger Alexander remains a plausible third brother, but no contemporary record calls him their brother or names this older Alexander as his father.

The 1834 Lisnagaver Robert does not presently supply Alexander's origin. The best-supported placement for Robert Glasgow of Glenleslie is a separate Dunaghy / Doonbought-Glenleslie tenant cluster. If he was the 1834 Robert, he could have been Alexander's brother, cousin or temporary co-tenant; the tithe alone cannot choose among those relationships.

No record currently selects a brother or first-cousin relationship between older Alexander and the unidentified Robert. Neither their relationship nor a shared generation should be supplied merely to complete an upstream diagram.

Two collateral records define additional Dunaghy relatives without establishing the older Alexander’s relationship to them. Robert's age-matching 1851 niece is probably Mary (Glasgow) Montgomery, whose 1862 marriage names her father as Hugh Glasgow, weaver; Hugh is therefore a probable brother of Robert. Separately, Alexander Glasgow of Glenleslie named a John Glasgow, labourer, as his father in 1847. This proves the Alexander given name occurred within the Dunaghy network, but does not identify this older Alexander or the common ancestor.

Rosanna should be represented as Rosanna Unknown, born before about 1780 if she is retained as Daniel's mother. The Shaw surname is an inference from two Kilrea clockmakers, not evidence of her birth family.

Identity cautions

Do not merge the older proposed Alexander with younger Alexander Glasgow of Lisnagaver or Alexander Glasgow who died at Gortahar in 1888.
Do not treat the two nearby 1851 households as proof that the heads were brothers.
Do not convert the 2007 family account into a contemporary parent citation.
Do not infer three brothers or a single father from the near-64-acre valuation total; the lot-24 John had a father named John.
Do not use the 1847 Glenleslie marriage against the Lisnagaver Alexander; its residence, wife and marriage date identify a separate man.

17 July placement update

If this Alexander fathered Daniel, whose original death age implies birth about 1795/96, Alexander must have been born by about 1775, not about 1790.
Rosanna's current estimated birth about 1790 makes her impossible as Daniel's mother. Change it to before about 1780, leave Daniel's mother blank, or treat the traditional parent identification as wrong.
Do not attach this Alexander to John Glasgow-1022 as either son or brother. The two branches were probably local paternal kin, but the degree is unknown.
Leave this Alexander's parents blank. Record Adam only as a weak collateral hypothesis; Rose is chronologically contradicted as mother.

Belfast News-Letter, 1829-06-05, p.4: no longer a candidate for this profile. County Antrim freehold-registration applications, June 1829: No. 2324, Alex. Glasgow, Lisnagaver, barony of Kilconway. Two existing Lisnagaver Alexanders remain compatible, Glasgow-951 and the older Glasgow-3904, and the notice gives nothing that separates them.

Any Larne connection for Alexander-951 must therefore join above John, not replace him. The chain James-1509 → this Alexander → Alexander-951 put this Alexander in John's place, and it is withdrawn as a route.

This Alexander and Rosanna remain a weaker rival parent hypothesis for Alexander-951. It rests on the late account naming them as Thomas's parents and on Alexander-951 having shared that family, which no record states.

Whether this Alexander could instead be John farmer's father is not decided by chronology: his birth "about 1770" is only an estimate, derived from Daniel's birth about 1795-96. No record suggests the relationship.

His possible place beside Adam of Inishrush, as a brother or cousin, is unchanged: a working comparison with no record. No WikiTree relationship is changed. Full comparison.

Other research notes

Killoquin tenant books survive privately

A Killoquin estate archive was first offered unsuccessfully as John Nicholson lot 218 on 19 November 2013, then sold as Mullocks lot 238 on 18 March 2014. The descriptions identify named-tenant rent books for 1772-74 and another tenant rental beginning in 1835. These are the best known records for testing whether an Alexander, John or Robert Glasgow preceded the 1834 Lisnagaver occupiers. The entries are not exposed and the present owner is unknown, so no relationship is inferred from the auction descriptions.

Birth-estimate audit - 21 August 2026

The live structured birth was corrected to about 1770, uncertain. The estimate is derived from the retained uncertain family chronology, especially Daniel's birth about 1795-96, rather than a birth record. The earlier before value remains only a strict chronological boundary, not the most useful estimated birth. No biography, relationship, source or other structured field was changed in this audit.

Alexander's widow Mary died at Gortahar in 1892 with daughter Mary Elder as informant. This supersedes the earlier assessment that the 1888 deceased was merely a separate Gortahar labourer represented by the former duplicate Glasgow-2717. It does not provide any new evidence that the older Alexander was the father of Alexander of Lisnagaver.

Appendix VII of Old Glasgow Weavers (Incorporation of Weavers of Glasgow, 2nd edition) lists Alexander Glasgow, Ireland among members entering in 1816–17; the appendix says that addresses generally reflect the address at admission. The entry gives no county, age, family, father or occupation, and the roll includes merchants and other non-resident members, so it does not show that he was a weaver. No matching admission was found in the published Burgesses and Guild Brethren of Glasgow, 1751–1846. The entry is chronologically compatible with this proposed older Alexander but is not identified with him or with any other profile. Current conclusion

**13 September 2026:** No newly inspected source proves this older Alexander
and [Rosanna Unknown](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-761034) as parents of
[Alexander Glasgow-951](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-951). The named
couple remains a possible working pair; the tradition applies directly to
Thomas, and Alexander's relationship to Thomas and Daniel is possible brother
or cousin. Preserve existing uncertain attachments; no replacement parent is
proved. Earlier July directions below to detach people or clear a mother are
superseded and must not be executed.

The bounded 13 September public search recovered no independent source behind
the 2007 parent names or reported October 1822 death. Search-indexed text from
the [Genes Reunited thread](https://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/general_topics/thread/465937)
expressly describes its 2020 restatement as a copy of the first post, so it
cannot count as an independent witness. Direct page retrieval failed in this
session; the completed 12 September thread and FamilySearch review is reused,
not claimed as a newly inspected original. The derivative Rosanna tree's
28 October 1822 conflicts with the post's approximate 23 October date. Neither
date nor the surname Shaw is established by an original record.

The live WikiTree API on 13 September still supplies an October 23, 1822 death
for Rosanna and estimated 1770 birth years for both spouses. These are stored
profile claims, not new evidence. No live changes were made. See the
[dated source-search log](older_pair_source_search_2026-09-13.md) for exact
queries, access limits and remaining records.

The best surviving record now identified for testing this reconstructed family
is PRONI's Ballymoney Reformed Presbyterian register,
`CR5/32/1/1/1-2` (1804-1844). Its society lists, baptisms, deaths and removals
span younger Alexander's and Thomas's probable births and Rosanna's reported
1822 death. A targeted surname-variant and family-group request was sent to
PRONI on 19 August 2026; no result has yet been received. The register is a
pending direct-evidence target, not present proof of the older couple.

No contemporary record identifies Alexander Glasgow as a son of Adam Glasgow of
Inishrush. The proposed older Alexander is reconstructed chiefly from a 2007
descendant account naming Alexander and Rosanna as parents of Thomas of
Lisnagaver. Daniel's original will and Daniel Neely's marriage now resolve the
former topology conflict by proving Daniel and Thomas were brothers. Daniel
and Thomas may remain uncertain children because they are proved brothers
and the descendant account names Thomas's parents. Younger Alexander
`Glasgow-951` may remain only a possible brother or cousin and uncertain working
child, but no contemporary record proves the parent edge.

Larne parentage and the unresolved upstream connection

The 13 September catalogue review gives this older Alexander a coherent possible place **beside Adam of Inishrush**, rather than necessarily beneath him. If James of Larne (Glasgow-1509), reportedly born in 1737, fathered Adam about 1758 and this Alexander about 1770, the intervals are about 21 and 33 years. Adam born about 1758 would instead be only twelve at a 1770 Alexander birth, while Rose born about 1767 would be three. Their dates are estimates, but the sibling or cousin version avoids the extra conditions needed for an Adam-to-Alexander parent link. No record yet proves James as either man's father. Parentage and cluster conclusion

Alexander remains **unproved** as Adam's son. Adam is a weak direct-father hypothesis; preserve existing uncertain attachments while comparing the sibling or cousin alternative. Rose, Adam's wife, presents a
serious chronology conflict: she was
born about 1767, while Alexander needed to be born by about 1778 at the latest to
father Daniel about 1795/96. Adam could only be a speculative young father by an earlier woman. No new maternal attachment or destructive tree change follows from this review. Brother, cousin or more distant collateral
is at least as plausible as Adam being the father.

The working family belongs in the standalone **Bann Valley-Killoquin / Kilrea-
Rasharkin cluster**. The 1834 occupier may be this older Alexander or his younger
namesake; the evidence does not choose. No record bridges this cluster to the
Kilwaughter Antrim Founders, Derry Main, Moneymore or Inishrush line.

Alexander should therefore be treated as the **earliest presently identifiable
head of this branch**, not forced beneath Adam of Inishrush or John of
Glenleslie. The best working reconstruction places [[Glasgow-3896|Daniel]] and
[[Glasgow-987|Thomas]] as uncertain sons because they are independently proved
brothers and descendant testimony names Alexander and Rosanna as Thomas's
parents. [[Glasgow-951|younger Alexander]] remains a plausible third brother,
but no contemporary record calls him their brother or names this older
Alexander as his father.

The 1834 Lisnagaver Robert does not presently supply Alexander's origin. The
best-supported placement for [[Glasgow-1367|Robert Glasgow of Glenleslie]] is a
separate Dunaghy / Doonbought-Glenleslie tenant cluster. If he was the 1834
Robert, he could have been Alexander's brother, cousin or temporary co-tenant;
the tithe alone cannot choose among those relationships.

Two collateral records define additional Dunaghy relatives without establishing the older Alexander’s relationship to them.
[[Glasgow-1367|Robert]]'s age-matching 1851 niece is probably
[[Glasgow-3957|Mary (Glasgow) Montgomery]], whose 1862 marriage names her father
as **Hugh Glasgow, weaver**; Hugh is therefore a probable brother of Robert.
Separately, [[Glasgow-2385|Alexander Glasgow of Glenleslie]] named a John
Glasgow, labourer, as his father in 1847. This proves the Alexander given name
occurred within the Dunaghy network, but does not identify this older Alexander
or the common ancestor.

Rosanna should be represented as **Rosanna Unknown**, born before about 1780 if
she is retained as Daniel's mother. The `Shaw` surname is an inference from two
Kilrea clockmakers, not evidence of her birth family.

Identity cautions

- Do not merge the older proposed Alexander with younger Alexander Glasgow of
  Lisnagaver or Alexander Glasgow who died at Gortahar in 1888.
- Do not treat the two nearby 1851 households as proof that the heads were
  brothers.
- Do not convert the 2007 family account into a contemporary parent citation.
- Do not infer three brothers or a single father from the near-64-acre valuation
  total; the lot-24 John had a father named John.
- Do not use the 1847 Glenleslie marriage against the Lisnagaver Alexander; its
  residence, wife and marriage date identify a separate man.

17 July placement update

- If this Alexander fathered Daniel, whose original death age implies birth
  about 1795/96, Alexander must have been born by about **1775**, not about 1790.
- Rosanna's current estimated birth about 1790 makes her impossible as Daniel's
  mother. Change it to before about 1780, leave Daniel's mother blank, or treat
  the traditional parent identification as wrong.
- Do not attach this Alexander to John `Glasgow-1022` as either son or brother.
  The two branches were probably local paternal kin, but the degree is unknown.
- Leave this Alexander's parents blank. Record Adam only as a weak collateral
  hypothesis; Rose is chronologically contradicted as mother.

Killoquin tenant books survive privately

A Killoquin estate archive was first offered unsuccessfully as [John Nicholson
lot 218 on 19 November 2013](https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/john-nicholson/catalogue-id-2893472/lot-20016991),
then sold as [Mullocks lot 238 on 18 March 2014](https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/mullocks-specialist-auctioneers-and-valuers/catalogue-id-2898702/lot-21299774).
The descriptions identify named-tenant rent books for 1772-74 and another
tenant rental beginning in 1835. These are the best known records for testing
whether an Alexander, John or Robert Glasgow preceded the 1834 Lisnagaver
occupiers. The entries are not exposed and the present owner is unknown, so no
relationship is inferred from the auction descriptions.

Birth-estimate audit - 21 August 2026

The live structured birth was corrected to **about 1770, uncertain**. The estimate is derived from the retained uncertain family chronology, especially Daniel's birth about 1795-96, rather than a birth record. The earlier `before` value remains only a strict chronological boundary, not the most useful estimated birth. No biography, relationship, source or other structured field was changed in this audit.

Correction concerning the 1888 Gortahar death - 24 August 2026

The Alexander Glasgow who died at Gortahar in 1888 should not be assigned to this older Alexander. Later evidence now strongly identifies the deceased with [[Glasgow-951|Alexander Glasgow of Lisnagaver]], rather than as an otherwise separate namesake.

Alexander's widow Mary died at Gortahar in 1892 with daughter [[Glasgow-3167|Mary Elder]] as informant. Mary Elder then appears as a widowed farmer at Gortahar in 1901, and the same household continued there in 1911.<ref>[https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QPB2-KNM2 FamilySearch, 1901 Ireland census index], Mary Elder household; [https://downtheroad.dev/de/census/household/c69e0288-e197-4995-af07-71e5ae0626f4 derivative 1911 household transcription], Robert J. Elder household.</ref> The 1911 nephew displayed as “Samuel Glasgow” was born **Samuel Elder** at Gortahar on 4 July 1908 to unmarried Jane Elder, with no father recorded and Mary Elder as informant.<ref>[https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/birth_returns/births_1908/01647/1657700.pdf General Register Office of Ireland, civil birth register], Samuel Elder, Gortahar, 4 July 1908.</ref> The original birth supports household continuity but not preservation of the Glasgow surname; the census name remains an unverified transcription conflict.

This supersedes the earlier assessment that the 1888 deceased was merely a separate Gortahar labourer represented by the former duplicate Glasgow-2717. It does not provide any new evidence that [[Glasgow-3904|the older Alexander]] was the father of Alexander of Lisnagaver.

Identity assessment — newspaper candidates withdrawn, 6 October 2026

- [Belfast News-Letter, 1829-06-05, p.4](https://www.newspapers.com/image/390582445/): no longer a candidate for this profile. County Antrim freehold-registration applications, June 1829: No. 2324, Alex. Glasgow, Lisnagaver, barony of Kilconway. Two existing Lisnagaver Alexanders remain compatible, Glasgow-951 and the older Glasgow-3904, and the notice gives nothing that separates them.

Relationship assessment — the Larne route through this Alexander is withdrawn, 6 October 2026

Alexander Glasgow-951's probable father is John Glasgow, farmer, named as the father of John Glasgow-867 in the 1846 marriage record. Any Larne connection for Alexander-951 must therefore join above John, not replace him. The chain James-1509 → this Alexander → Alexander-951 put this Alexander in John's place, and it is withdrawn as a route.

This Alexander and Rosanna remain a weaker rival parent hypothesis for Alexander-951. It rests on the late account naming them as Thomas's parents and on Alexander-951 having shared that family, which no record states.

Whether this Alexander could instead be John farmer's father is not decided by chronology: his birth "about 1770" is only an estimate, derived from Daniel's birth about 1795-96. No record suggests the relationship.

His possible place beside Adam of Inishrush, as a brother or cousin, is unchanged: a working comparison with no record. No WikiTree relationship is changed. [Full comparison](/people/glasgow-951.html#larne-reconstruction).

Unresolved — "Alexander Glasgow, Ireland" in the Glasgow weavers' roll, 1816–17 (recorded 24 August 2026)

Appendix VII of *Old Glasgow Weavers* (Incorporation of Weavers of Glasgow, 2nd edition) lists **Alexander Glasgow, Ireland** among members entering in 1816–17; the appendix says that addresses generally reflect the address at admission. The entry gives no county, age, family, father or occupation, and the roll includes merchants and other non-resident members, so it does not show that he was a weaver. No matching admission was found in the published *Burgesses and Guild Brethren of Glasgow, 1751–1846*. The entry is chronologically compatible with this proposed older Alexander but is not identified with him or with any other profile. The original admission or minute entry may give the mode of entry and a father or master; a draft lookup request is saved at `research/Glasgow-951/sources/glasgow_weavers_lookup_request_2026-08-24.md`.
