The original civil register records James's death at Inishrush on **12 December
1878**, not 11 December. The published stone transcription gives 11 December.
Treat this as a one-day source conflict, not as two deaths, and use the original
civil-register date for the structured death. The live structured date is now
**12 December 1878**. Henry Glasgow's presence at death
does not state his relationship.

James Glasgow is directly identified as Adam and Rose Glasgow's son by the family
gravestone. He is no longer the best identity for the James in the 1847
Barkly-child report. An original 1851 marriage instead proves that the younger
James `Glasgow-1623`, also of Inishrush, married Rosanna Barkley, farm servant of
Tyanee and daughter of Henry Barkley—the exact people and relationship described
in the report. Do not attach the unnamed child to this older James.

1. Inspect First Portglenone minister William Kennedy McKay's marriage licences,
   PRONI `D2594/1`, for the 1851 James/Rosanna licence and possible surety detail.
2. Find a later record explicitly naming Roseanne Glasgow's husband and maiden
   surname, and records naming the children of James `Glasgow-1623`.
3. Search the complete Drimbolg session book and estate records for a discipline,
   maintenance, apprenticeship, or inheritance entry naming the child.
4. Search First Kilrea Presbyterian session minutes `MIC1P/87` and Drimbolg
   Reformed Presbyterian `MIC1C/15` specifically for James Glasgow, Henry
   Barkly/Barkley, his daughters, servants, fornication, baptism and maintenance
   between 1845 and March 1847.

transcription. The original civil register says **12 December 1878**; the live
structured field now uses that date and preserves the gravestone discrepancy in

The complete three-page original of [John Glasgow's letter of 20 March 1847](https://www.hiltner.com/mckeown/documents/John%20Glasgow%20letter%20to%20Jane%20Glasgow%20Gray%203-20-1847.pdf) separates three items: a letter from Adam dated 27 December 1846; R. Mulhollan's report about western Canada and the potato rot; and **McCaivey's** news that James Glasgow reportedly had a child by a servant who was a daughter of Henry Barkly. The report came from McCaivey, not R. Mulhollan, as the source table formerly said. McCaivey's identity is unresolved. The Adam of the 1846 letter cannot be this James's father, Adam of Inishrush, who died in 1844; the letter states no older-generation kinship. The assessment that the report concerns the younger James (Glasgow-1623), not this James, is unchanged.

The [original 1878 civil death return](https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/deaths_returns/deaths_1878/020497/7192875.pdf) is entry 138. It gives the cause as old-age debility of three weeks, uncertified, with no medical attendant. Henry Glasgow of Innisrush signed by his X mark as informant, qualified as present at death, and the death was registered on 23 December 1878. Read from an image crop of the original entry; the crop lacks column headings and the district heading, and the registrar's signature was not fully transcribed. The entry states no relationship between Henry and James and does not name James's wife or parents.

Every Glasgow death indexed in Magherafelt registration district for 1864–1922 was checked against the available register pages ([IrishGenealogy.ie](https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/)). Besides the known Inishrush deaths (James 1878, William 1882, Roseanne 1888, Mary 1889 and the later Adam 1916), the entries are Maria (1879, Kinturk), Eleanor (1883, Drumard), Martha Anne (1890, Dreenan), William (1915, Dreenan) and Robert (1917, Dorman). They belong to other local households and none states a relationship to the Inishrush family. Negative result for the district; deaths registered elsewhere are not covered.
