Biography
Robert Glasgow was probably born about 1790 or 1791 in South Carolina. The original 1820 census placed him at 26–44 and the 1840 census at 40–49. Robert served as Robert Glasco in Captain William McKay's Tennessee militia company during the War of 1812. The surviving muster covers 20 June 1814 to 27 January 1815. By September 1818, Robert Glascow was in Giles County, where the county court assigned him to work on a local road. On 28 December 1818, Robert Glasco purchased fifty-nine acres on the headwaters of Bradshaw Creek from Josiah Stovall. The original 1820 Giles County census schedule names Robert Glasgow as head of a six-person household: two males under 10, one male 10–15, one male 26–44, one female under 10 and one female 26–44. 

In 1840 Robert was enumerated in Lauderdale County, Alabama, with two younger males and three females. In 1850 he was back in Giles County, Tennessee, working as a laborer. Priscilla Glascoe, aged 28 and born in Tennessee, was living in his household. Robert's death date has not been established; 1850 is his last presently documented occurrence.

Robert is attached to Nancy as an uncertain wife. No contemporary record inspected in this research names his wife. A female aged 50–59 in Robert's 1840 household is compatible with the reported Nancy, but the census gives neither her name nor her relationship.

Parentage
Robert Glasgow was previously attached as Robert's father. However, the shared Glasgow memorial in Gilders Creek Cemetery directly identifies a different Robert—Robert Glasgow, who died on 12 December 1813 aged five—as the son of Glasgow-1983 and Elizabeth. The two sons cannot be the same person: this Robert was alive during the 1814–1815 muster and bought land in Tennessee in 1818. The couple cannot plausibly have had two living sons named Robert at the same time. With no direct evidence for the former attachment, Glasgow-1983 was detached and Robert's parents were left blank.

Archibald Glasgow is the leading possible father found so far. The 1800 Newberry census recorded Archibald with exactly one male under ten, one male aged 26–44, four females under ten, one female aged 16–25 and two enslaved people. Robert's census-derived birth about 1790 and South Carolina birthplace fit the broad age category.

The census does not name the boy. Its only adult female was aged 16–25, which makes maternity by Archibald's known wife Mary chronologically tight if Robert was born near 1790.
