Summary of the research

Overall conclusion

Elizabeth was Robert's wife. Their shared Gilders Creek stone directly identifies their son Robert, born about 1808 and dead in 1813. That child is Glasgow-3982, not the Tennessee Robert Glasgow-2769.

Robert and Elizabeth had a larger family than WikiTree currently shows. The 1800 census records one boy aged 10–15, two girls aged 10–15 and one girl under 10 in their household. The boy fits James (about 1787–1831). Mary Caroline Glasgow (1785–1841), wife of Zaccheus Wright, is a strong daughter candidate: she fits one of the two older girls, a Wright family account calls her the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Kinard, and Zaccheus administered Robert's estate in 1835. The other two daughters remain unidentified.

No further son is presently indicated. In 1800 the only boy in Robert's household was the age-compatible James; Robert (1808–1813) was born later. The 1835 estate packet is the decisive uninspected source for a complete heir list.

Glasgow-1189 is a possible local/age candidate, with no Cookstown bridge. Glasgow-1983 is a weaker Irish-born namesake with a South Carolina household context. Neither identity, kinship nor residence is proved. No family or life-date change follows.

Robert Glasgow pledges two guineas in a Cookstown reward subscription after a shot was fired at a soldier standing sentinel. Issue dated 12 December 1796; reported Cookstown dateline is 2 December. The original notice recounts Tuesday morning, 29 November, and pledges a reward for discovery/conviction after a shot at a soldier standing sentinel. Two guineas is the sum pledged by Robert, not proof of payment or the assailant’s identity. His residence and family are unstated. Glasgow-1189 is a possible local/age candidate, with no Cookstown bridge. Glasgow-1983 is a weaker Irish-born namesake with a South Carolina household context. Northern Star 12 Dec 1796: Robert Glasgow pledges two guineas to the Cookstown reward subscription after a shot was fired at a sentinel on 29 Nov 1796. A newly found strongest candidate is Glasgow-3941, the only Robert Glasgow in the 1796 Tyrone Flax Growers' list (Lissan parish, next to Cookstown; later at Coltrim). He is possible, not proved. Glasgow-1983 is now unlikely (South Carolina household by 1785).

Birth: about September or October 1762, from the Gilder's Creek stone as transcribed: died 17 January 1835 aged 72 years 3 months. The transcription's heading year, 1763, is a miscalculation and is the origin of the present value. The transcription was read through a summarising fetch, so the stone wording should be confirmed on the page. Note: the sworn answer calls Robert the oldest son, but John Glasgow-1146 (died 11 December 1826 aged 70) was born about 1756.

A newly found strongest candidate is Glasgow-3941, the only Robert Glasgow in the 1796 Tyrone Flax Growers' list (Lissan parish, next to Cookstown; later at Coltrim). He is possible, not proved. Glasgow-1983 is now unlikely (South Carolina household by 1785).

**Birth: about September or October 1762**, from the Gilder's Creek stone as transcribed: died 17 January 1835 aged 72 years 3 months. The transcription's heading year, 1763, is a miscalculation and is the origin of the present value. The transcription was read through a summarising fetch, so the stone wording should be confirmed on the page. Note: the sworn answer calls Robert the oldest son, but John Glasgow-1146 (died 11 December 1826 aged 70) was born about 1756.
