Comparison context
These child positions and checks are the subject details used to rank possible parents below.
Naming sequence used by the parentage model
Known-position checks: 0 support · 0 conflict. Ordinals retain unnamed children and recognise reused names.
Relationship comparison
Potential parents or duplicates
Compare scored leads with the subject details above—not proof.
No named children are recoverable, so child-naming analysis cannot be run.
How parent leads are calculated
Automated leads use birth surnames—not married surnames—as parental eligibility, role-specific biological age limits, bounded and approximate-date uncertainty, household chronology, specific time-aware localities, mapped distance, tenancy succession, migration destinations and sex-aware Scottish naming positions across generations. People already attached as the subject's parents stay in the identity summary and are excluded from this alternative-candidate list, regardless of relationship confidence. The main calibration uses clues available on disconnected profiles; existing parent and sibling links are retained as comparison context rather than treated as transferable evidence. Common ordered names and grandparent-to-child echoes receive a small non-zero weight, so a John or James match can support several independent criteria without producing a lead alone. Rare names, repeated bearers and bundles across otherwise distinct branches receive substantially more weight according to catalogue frequency. An exact migration place is weighted by its rarity and repetition across both branches; a shared destination country is worth only one point. Extra weight is added only when at least three independent clue types converge: naming, locality, specific migration, household chronology or collateral networks. Sparse profiles retain a clearly labelled chronology-only fallback instead of disappearing. Countries, states, counties and research clusters do not count as a shared locality, and fallback, broad representative or kin-inferred coordinates are excluded from distance scoring. Shared descendant profiles are removed before branch-name comparison. A candidate already recorded as a parent-in-law is excluded. A confident or independently supported parent is treated as settled; uncertain and unassessed attachments remain open to alternative comparison. A different linked parent, an uncle/aunt or grandparent path, and a matching existing child profile prevent an alternative from being classified as a strong direct-parent lead until the underlying tree conflict or duplicate is resolved. Familiar forms such as Bessie are normalised. Surname remains an eligibility filter worth zero points.
Naming customs, shared farms and occupations are circumstantial. Children, spouses and collateral relatives may be missing, and tree-derived family networks are not independent evidence. Scores rank research leads; they do not prove parentage.
No sufficiently similar same-name person is currently indexed.
How duplicate leads are calculated
Dates are eligibility gates, not merely deductions: chronologically impossible people are excluded. Dates, places, spouses, parent certainty and children's profiles and names are then compared. A high score is a prompt to inspect records, not a merge recommendation.

Current conclusion
The Glasgow Commissary testament calendar directly identifies Katherine as the spouse of Thomas Weir of the parish of Stevenston and dates her testament to 9 May 1605. She therefore died before that date. The existing Thomas Weir profile (Weir-4172) has now been repurposed for this record-defined Stevenston husband: its former 1590 Aberdeen birth was removed and the live page now gives birth before 1580. Retain that profile as Katherine's spouse and do not restore the unrelated Aberdeen identity. Its live family header currently misreads 9 May 1605 as the marriage date and Stevenson, Lanarkshire as the place; the source instead records Katherine's testament at Stevenston parish, Ayrshire.
The attached uncertain father, James Glasgow younger (Glasgow-3921), born before 1542, Corsankell, is chronologically and geographically plausible but remains unproved. The testament calendar names no parent.

Case-file priorities and cautions
Recommended correction applied
Applied live on 19 August 2026. Birth about 1580 and the Glasgow-3921 father link are explicitly uncertain. Death is before 9 May 1605 at uncertain Stevenston. The false marriage date and Lanarkshire place were cleared, the record-proved marriage retained confident, and the speculative manuscript narrative was replaced while preserving the underlying CC9/7/4 source.
The biography now explains why WikiTree's 1571/1580 validation warning is not a chronological contradiction: James was alive on 9 February 1571 and died after that date; the system displays the lower boundary as though it were his death date.

- Biography Katherine Glasgow lived in the parish of Stevenston, Ayrshire, and was married to Thomas Weir. The Glasgow Commissary Court calendar identifies her as Thomas's spouse and records her testament on 9 May 1605, so she died before that date. Francis J. Grant, ed., The Commissariot Record of Glasgow: Register of Testaments, 1547-1800 (Edinburgh, 1901), p. 196 (https://archive.org/details/scottishrecordso07scotuoft/page/196/mode/1up), entry for Katherine Glasgow; underlying register NRS CC9/7/4. Research Notes Katherine's birth about 1580 is an unsourced estimate and remains uncertain. The testament calendar does not name her parents or children.
- James Glasgow younger of Corsankell is retained only as an uncertain father because the generation and Stevenston locality are compatible; no reviewed record states the relationship. WikiTree may flag Katherine's estimated 1580 birth as occurring after James's death. This is not a chronological conflict: 9 February 1571 is the last date on which James is documented alive, and his death field is marked “after,” not as an exact death date.
- The indexed record establishes Katherine's spouse, parish and death boundary. It does not support the former speculative narrative about an insolvent inventory, unidentified administrators, “Sir Dafnes,” Stafford or guardianship. The underlying Glasgow Commissary Court reference CC9/7/4 is retained, but those interpretations should not be restored without verified images and a reliable transcription.
The date 9 May 1605 is the testament date, not a marriage date. Stevenston is in Ayrshire, not Lanarkshire. Sources
