About John

The 1851 Ballycregagh census directly calls John Glasgow, age 18, an absent son of James Glasgow. John was a linen weaver, born in County Antrim and temporarily elsewhere in that county. James and Peggy Hamilton reported marrying in 1848, about fifteen years after John's birth, so her maternity is unproved but not impossible. Mary Glasgow of the matching 1847 workhouse family is the stronger mother candidate, but the record does not include John and no direct maternity record has been found. Retain Peggy uncertain until a better replacement can be attached.
