Overall conclusion
The Gortahar death of Mary Glasgow is a high-confidence identification with Mary McCaughan, as already assessed in the 5 September master integration. The earlier page's request for a direct marriage before identifying her did not reflect that maintained family argument. This is a reconciliation of existing research. Separately, the repeated Rasharkin baptisms and the 1851 household document Mary as Alexander's wife. The records preserve the literal forms Mary McAughin (1837) and Molly McAughern (1838 and 1844), maintained as given-name and surname spelling variants of Mary McCaughan rather than silently normalized.
Her daughter Mary Elder was present at death. The 14 June 1871 marriage identifies Mary Glasgow, of Lisnagaver, as the daughter of Alexander Glasgow, farmer, and wife of Robert Elder. Elder's later succession to Alexander's lot 25 supports this family bridge. Combined with the Mary/Molly baptism and household reconstruction, it strongly identifies the older Mary; no particular marriage certificate is a blanket prerequisite.

This exact directory occurrence is absent from the full catalogue, including the associated McCaughan/McCaughern material. It is a useful later locality lead because Lisnagaver is the Glasgow family's documented townland and the directory places a McCaughern farmer there after the 1851 and 1901–1911 census evidence. It does not identify Robert's age, parents or relationship to Mary Glasgow, and it must not be merged with any other Robert McCaughern without the underlying valuation, census or civil records.

This exact occupation and locality combination is absent from the full catalogue. No record names Mary's parents. The working hypothesis, set out in full in research/Glasgow-951/findings.md (her husband Alexander Glasgow-951), is that her father was James McCaheran, recorded with William McCaheran at Gortereghy, Rasharkin parish, in the 1834 tithe material (PRONI FIN/5/A/236; North Antrim tithe transcription, index 7490 as cited in Glasgow-951's findings; original page not checked). Alexander and Mary's first located children were recorded at Gortereagh in 1837–1838, with Mary's surname written McAughin or McAughern (Rasharkin Presbyterian baptism transcription, entries 75 and 106), and their first known son was named James. These are weak-to-moderate clues and the naming clue is not diagnostic. James is a working candidate only; no record states that he was Mary's father, and he should not be attached as her father.
The best burial candidate for the 1834 James is James McCaughern, born about 1790, died 13 September 1858, buried at Rasharkin Presbyterian Church graveyard, with Nancy McCaughern (1794–1859) as spouse and Thomas (1829–1857) as child (FamilySearch Find a Grave index; Find a Grave memorial 205517378; index and memorial data only). The memorial does not name Gortereghy, William McCaheran or Mary, so the match is not proved. Keep James McCaughan (McCaughan-68) separate: he has no demonstrated Gortereghy or Rasharkin connection.

The WikiTree biography distinguishes this Mary from a same-name contemporary: a Mary McCaughan said to have been born about 1817 in Dublin, a daughter of Hugh, who married John McAulay in 1840 and appears in the New York passenger lists in 1859 and the 1861 Ontario census. The exclusion is consistent with this file, which places this Mary with Alexander at Rasharkin in the baptisms of 1837–44 and the 1851 Lisnagaver household, and has her die at Gortahar in 1892.
Seen only as the biography's text and its two FamilySearch index citations; the passenger and census entries were not opened, and the biography cites nothing for the Dublin birth, the 1840 marriage or Hugh's parentage. Use it only to keep those two North American records off this profile, not as evidence about this Mary's own parents. Relationship assessment — candidate father James McCaheran, September 2026
No record names Mary's parents. The working hypothesis, set out in full in `research/Glasgow-951/findings.md` (her husband [Alexander Glasgow-951](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-951)), is that her father was **James McCaheran**, recorded with William McCaheran at Gortereghy, Rasharkin parish, in the 1834 tithe material (PRONI FIN/5/A/236; [North Antrim tithe transcription](https://www.billmacafee.com/182030stithe/tithenorthantrimrevisionorder.pdf), index 7490 as cited in Glasgow-951's findings; original page not checked). Alexander and Mary's first located children were recorded at Gortereagh in 1837–1838, with Mary's surname written McAughin or McAughern (Rasharkin Presbyterian baptism transcription, entries 75 and 106), and their first known son was named James. These are weak-to-moderate clues and the naming clue is not diagnostic. James is a **working candidate only**; no record states that he was Mary's father, and he should not be attached as her father. The best burial candidate for the 1834 James is James McCaughern, born about 1790, died 13 September 1858, buried at Rasharkin Presbyterian Church graveyard, with Nancy McCaughern (1794–1859) as spouse and Thomas (1829–1857) as child ([FamilySearch Find a Grave index](https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:CVDP-S2MM); [Find a Grave memorial 205517378](https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/205517378/james-mccaughern); index and memorial data only). The WikiTree biography distinguishes this Mary from a same-name contemporary: a Mary McCaughan said to have been born about 1817 in Dublin, a daughter of Hugh, who married John McAulay in 1840 and appears in the [New York passenger lists in 1859](https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:27T9-VWQ) and the [1861 Ontario census](https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQWD-6ZH). The exclusion is consistent with this file, which places this Mary with Alexander at Rasharkin in the baptisms of 1837–44 and the 1851 Lisnagaver household, and has her die at Gortahar in 1892. Seen only as the biography's text and its two FamilySearch index citations; the passenger and census entries were not opened, and the biography cites nothing for the Dublin birth, the 1840 marriage or Hugh's parentage.
