The Rasharkin transcription identifies this second James as born 9 October 1843 at Lisnagaver and baptised 7 January 1844, a child of Alexander and Mary (recorded as Alex and Molly McAughern). His presence aged seven in their 1851 household confirms the same family. The parent-child relationships are therefore documented, not merely strongly supported. An earlier James was born in 1837 and probably died before the name was reused; the incomplete 1838 baptism entry must not be assigned a name.

Summary of the research
Overall conclusion
The James Glasgow buried at Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh, Michigan, is now a strong but unproved identity candidate for Alexander's son. He was born in about 1843-44, appears with the complete cemetery family in the original 1884 Michigan census, and his daughter's original 1941 death certificate says her father James Glasgow was born in County Antrim, Ireland. That is a much narrower match than the profile's former Find a Grave lead: Alexander's proved son was born at Lisnagaver, County Antrim, on 9 October 1843.
Only the later Michigan identity is not yet proved. No inspected American record names James's parents, gives his exact birth date, or mentions Lisnagaver, Rasharkin, Alexander Glasgow or Mary McCaughan. The newly assembled 1869 marriage and 1870/1880 census indexes extend the Michigan household but do not provide that bridge. The original 1869 marriage return, naturalisation papers or a passenger record remain the best prospects before merging the Michigan man into the Irish biography as fact.
A derivative descendant report says letters in Hugh Craig's Civil War pension file mention work with or for a James Glasgow at the depot. That is compatible with the Tecumseh baggage master, but the letters and complete pension file have not been inspected and the report does not identify James's parents. It is a targeted collateral lead, not additional proof that the Michigan man was Alexander's son.
A separate James Glasgow really did occupy a small house and garden at Dromore, Rasharkin parish. The original valuation-revision books carry him at plot 18b from the 1863-79 book through the 1891-1901 book. This corrects the earlier transcription audit, but makes him a poor match for the Tecumseh man, who reported living in Michigan from about 1866. Valuation names can lag behind an occupier's departure, so the evidence strongly separates the two men rather than proving the Dromore man's identity.
Samuel Glasgow of Franklin/Blissfield is not a supported brother candidate. The 1838 Gortereagh child was already represented by Glasgow-3940, and Alexander's 1851 return lists no such child as resident, absent, or dead since 1841. Samuel has no American record naming Alexander, Mary, Gortereagh or County Antrim.

The original civil birth return records John Glasgow born at Lisnagaver on 3 October 1887. His father is recorded as James Glasgow, farmer, of Lisnagaver; his mother is Eliza Ann Glasgow, formerly Lappin. James Glasgow, of Lisnagaver, was the informant and is identified as the father in the return.
This is a strong new candidate record for a child of James Glasgow, whose documented 1843 birth and 1851 household also place him at Lisnagaver. The age and occupation are compatible, but the return does not give the father's age, birth date, or parentage. Another James Glasgow cannot yet be excluded, so the record must not be added as a structured child relationship or used to identify the later Michigan man as fact.

The older WikiTree research notes for this profile listed FamilySearch person MDBX-Y1G as a "similar person", and the paste-ready draft Glasgow-973.md calls it "an earlier FamilySearch identifier" for this James. A capture of that person's sources page shows a different man: James Glasgow, 29 April 1841 – 14 November 1903, with 28 Scottish attachments. They include the 1841 and 1851 Scotland censuses for Kirknewton parish, Midlothian, civil registrations of children with James as father (for example Edward Sutton Glasgow, 13 February 1870, and Agnes Hunter Glasgow, 16 December 1881), and an 1898 family notice naming Mary Ann Sutton (index).
Seen only as a capture of the FamilySearch tree page and its index citations; the attachments are another user's conclusions and no record image was inspected. If they are right, that James was in Scotland in 1841 and 1851, while Alexander's son was born at Lisnagaver on 9 October 1843 and was in the Lisnagaver household in 1851. MDBX-Y1G is therefore probably a different man (an inference from the attached records) and should not be described as an earlier identifier for him. The FamilySearch person for the Lisnagaver and Michigan candidate is MQ57-BVR (see the 18 August 2026 audit above).

New parentage lead from Lisnagaver birth record: John Glasgow, 3 October 1887
The original civil birth return records John Glasgow born at Lisnagaver on 3 October 1887. His father is recorded as James Glasgow, farmer, of Lisnagaver; his mother is Eliza Ann Glasgow, formerly Lappin. James Glasgow, of Lisnagaver, was the informant and is identified as the father in the return. This is a strong new candidate record for a child of [[Glasgow-973|James Glasgow]], whose documented 1843 birth and 1851 household also place him at Lisnagaver. The age and occupation are compatible, but the return does not give the father's age, birth date, or parentage. Another James Glasgow cannot yet be excluded, so the record must not be added as a structured child relationship or used to identify the later Michigan man as fact. Current conclusion
The Rasharkin transcription identifies this second James as born 9 October 1843 at Lisnagaver and baptised 7 January 1844, a child of Alexander and Mary (recorded as Alex and Molly McAughern). His presence aged seven in their 1851 household confirms the same family. The parent-child relationships are therefore **documented**, not merely strongly supported. An earlier James was born in 1837 and probably died before the name was reused; the incomplete 1838 baptism entry must not be assigned a name. The James Glasgow buried at Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh, Michigan, is now a **strong but unproved identity candidate** for Alexander's son. He was born in about 1843-44, appears with the complete cemetery family in the original 1884 Michigan census, and his daughter's original 1941 death certificate says her father James Glasgow was born in **County Antrim, Ireland**. That is a much narrower match than the profile's former Find a Grave lead: Alexander's proved son was born at Lisnagaver, County Antrim, on 9 October 1843. Only the later Michigan identity is not yet proved. No inspected American record names James's parents, gives his exact birth date, or mentions Lisnagaver, Rasharkin, Alexander Glasgow or Mary McCaughan. The newly assembled 1869 marriage and 1870/1880 census indexes extend the Michigan household but do not provide that bridge. The **original 1869 marriage return**, naturalisation papers or a passenger record remain the best prospects before merging the Michigan man into the Irish biography as fact. A derivative descendant report says letters in Hugh Craig's Civil War pension file mention work with or for a James Glasgow at the depot. That is compatible with the Tecumseh baggage master, but the letters and complete pension file have not been inspected and the report does not identify James's parents. It is a targeted collateral lead, not additional proof that the Michigan man was Alexander's son. A separate James Glasgow really did occupy a small house and garden at **Dromore, Rasharkin parish**. The original valuation-revision books carry him at plot 18b from the 1863-79 book through the 1891-1901 book. This corrects the earlier transcription audit, but makes him a poor match for the Tecumseh man, who reported living in Michigan from about 1866. Valuation names can lag behind an occupier's departure, so the evidence strongly separates the two men rather than proving the Dromore man's identity. Samuel Glasgow of Franklin/Blissfield is not a supported brother candidate. The 1838 Gortereagh child was already represented by [Glasgow-3940](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-3940), and Alexander's 1851 return lists no such child as resident, absent, or dead since 1841. Samuel has no American record naming Alexander, Mary, Gortereagh or County Antrim.

Several are duplicate database extractions, and the two 1851 attachments are records from the same Lisnagaver household. Corrections to the live WikiTree research notes
- The proposed `29 August 1896` death is not supported by the official index. Michigan GENDIS and the 1 August 1896 newspaper report independently establish **30 July 1896** for the Tecumseh candidate. The Find a Grave date is erroneous. - The Dromore valuation entry is real; the earlier claim that the Rasharkin transcription contained no Glasgow was an error. The original PRONI books show **James Glasgow at Dromore plot 18b**, a house and small garden under James Hood and later Robert Hood, in `VAL/12/B/3/13A` (1863-79), `13B` (1880-91) and `13C` (1891-1901). Because the same name remains on the holding into the 1891-1901 volume, this was probably a different local James, not the Tecumseh man resident in Michigan from about 1866. - Do not yet change James's death place or attach Mary Baird and their children as proved relatives. Present the Tecumseh family as a well-supported candidate pending a parent-level or exact-birth-date link.
Searches completed and remaining gaps
- A [derivative Peter Morton descendant report](https://genealogygirl.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/peter-morton-descendant-report.pdf) says that letters in Hugh Craig's pension file record that Craig “worked with/for James Glasgow at the depot.” This is compatible with the documented Tecumseh baggage master, but neither the letters nor the complete pension file have been inspected and the report does not identify James's parents. It therefore remains a targeted collateral lead, not added weight for the Ireland-to-Michigan identity. - Obtain Hugh Craig's **complete** federal pension application file through [NARA/NATF 85](https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/pre-ww-1-records), including the widow file and correspondence. The small eight-document military pension packet is not an adequate substitute for a reference reportedly found in letters. - The Tecumseh District Library's digitised cemetery index and register were inspected, not merely their web snippets. - Michiganology's original death certificates for Mary and daughter Minnie were inspected. James's 1896 certificate is not in that digitised 1897-1952 series. - The original 1884 Michigan state census was inspected. It reconstructs the same James-Mary-Minnie-Maggie-Bertha household and gives James's age, occupation and Irish birth, but not his parents' names or County Antrim. - The digitised *Tecumseh Herald* run was searched for Glasgow and Baird. It has a gap around the crucial late-July 1896 issue. A separate search of the Lenawee County Family Researchers' *Michigan Messenger* compilation located the 1 August 1896 death report reproduced above. - FamilySearch now identifies the 1869 James-Mary marriage and the 1870 and 1880 US censuses. Their pasted index views establish the family but add no parent-level link. The original 1869 marriage return should still be checked; it is the only record in this batch with a realistic chance of adding an age, birthplace, parents or revealing witnesses. - The next highest-value records are Michigan's 1894 state census, Lenawee County naturalisation files, the original 1896 death register and any coroner or inquest file. Search the Baird siblings Jackson and Samuel in the same records: a shared arrival or residence may reveal James's migration path. - Do not treat Samuel Glasgow of Franklin/Blissfield as James's brother. The 1838 Gortereagh baptism was already represented by [Glasgow-3940](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-3940), and Alexander's 1851 return lists no such child as resident, absent, or dead since 1841. Samuel has no parent or County Antrim evidence. Identity assessment — FamilySearch person MDBX-Y1G is probably a different James, 7 October 2026
The older WikiTree research notes for this profile listed [FamilySearch person MDBX-Y1G](https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/MDBX-Y1G) as a "similar person", and the paste-ready draft `Glasgow-973.md` calls it "an earlier FamilySearch identifier" for this James. A capture of that person's sources page shows a different man: **James Glasgow, 29 April 1841 – 14 November 1903**, with 28 Scottish attachments. They include the 1841 and 1851 Scotland censuses for Kirknewton parish, Midlothian, civil registrations of children with James as father (for example Edward Sutton Glasgow, [13 February 1870](https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X9R9-B4G5), and Agnes Hunter Glasgow, [16 December 1881](https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X9GD-LQJG)), and an 1898 family notice naming Mary Ann Sutton ([index](https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QLSQ-TKG3)). Seen only as a capture of the FamilySearch tree page and its index citations; the attachments are another user's conclusions and no record image was inspected. If they are right, that James was in Scotland in 1841 and 1851, while Alexander's son was born at Lisnagaver on 9 October 1843 and was in the Lisnagaver household in 1851.
