Robert emigrated to Nottingham, Chester, Pennsylvania in 1769 per his pension application. U.S., Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Application Files, 1800-1900 

"in 1779, ten years after the arrival of Robert Glasgow in Nottingham, John Glasgow, who was recorded as having had land in Cecil County, Maryland, was residing in Peters Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania in 1780. The first record of Robert Glasgow in America also appears in the Peters Township records that year. John Glasgow in the rates of Peters Township for 1779 was listed with 170 acres, 2 horses and 2 cattle, where Robert Glasgow had 50 acres with 2 horses and 2 cattle. Neither was listed as having Negroes. Pennsylvania archives, 3rd series, Vol. xx, p 213 . John Glasgow died the same year leaving a will dated 14 Mar 1779 and proved 3 Sep 1779. His will mentions wife Ann, and children, Lettice, Agnes, Jospeh and a child 'not yet born'. Executors were wife Ann Glasgow and Thomas Cellers and witnesses Joseph Glasgow, James Neely and Mary Arter. Cumberland County Wills, Book C, Page 161 . As the rate payers also include Robert and Arthur Glasgow there can be no doubt that with John and Joseph Glasgow and Mary Arter these are the four brothers and sister of those names recorded by Mrs. Francis. In 1780 John's widow Ann was listed as having 106 acres, 1 horse and 2 cattle, Robert Glasgow with 82 acres, 2 horses and 2 cattle, and Joseph Glasgow with 1 horse and 1 cattle. Arthur Glasgow was listed as a freeman. These records strongly suggest that John Glasgow was the oldest brother and Arthur the youngest. John Glasgow's widow Ann was later married to David Collins removing with him to Virginia and then to Ohio."  Robert and Peggy Glasgow appear in the Adams County records when on 29 Dec 1813 they sold twenty five acres on the West Fork of Brush Creek (bordering the land of Joseph Glasgow) to James Magill for sixty five dollars. No further record of Peggy Glasgow has been found. Military Service in the Revolutionary War
In September 1780, Robert was drafted into the Virginia militia for the Revolutionary War. His application for a military pension states that he was drafted multiple times, but ultimately served approximately six months. He was in the 11th Regiment in Virginia. After the war he was given bounty land of 1000 acres in Adams County, Ohio, which was part of the Virginia Military Reserve. He did a scouting expedition in 1796 and moved to Adams County in 1806.

"Robert, Arthur and Joseph Glasgow continued to reside in Virginia during the years after the end of the Revolutionary War. It is evident that Robert and Arthur sometime in the 1790s became interested in land newly opened to settlement. Before the Revolution the Commonwealth of Virginia had claimed the territory west of the Allegheny Mountains and north of the Ohio River, the so-called Northwest Territory. Move to Adams County, Ohio
Robert was awarded 1,000 acres of bounty land from his Revolutionary War service on the waters of the West Fork of Brush Creek in what was then called the Virginia Military District.

In 1796, Robert carried out a scouting trip to the new Northwest Territory. "As a result of this scouting, at least two children of Robert Glasgow, Nancy (Glasgow) McClelland and William Glasgow removed to Adams County, Ohio in time to plant crops in the spring of 1805 and to report to Virginia of their progress." ibid, p18 

"In October, 1806, Robert Glasgow and his wagon train of relatives and friends passed through Wythe County, Virginia, visiting with his brother Joseph who wrote this letter to their brother Arthur in Rockbridge County: 

'Joseph and Betty Glasgow, Wythe County, Nov the sixth, 1806 to Mr. Arthur Glasgow, Rockbridge County, North River (to the care of John McCorkle one mile from Buffalo Creek Tavern):

Der brother and Sister: I now sit down to relate a few things unto you in the first place brother robert and all the friends came on Monday the 27 of Oct: and left shis on wednsey. They were all in good health except ester dredon. She was very unwell....." ibid, p 19 - there is more to the letter but this relates to Roberts family '

Included in the wagon train were all the other children of Robert Glasgow and their families, with the exception of Robert's son Joseph who was also son-in-law of Robert's brother Arthur. Joseph Glasgow made his own scouting trip to Ohio. Francis Thomas Glasgow (1829-1916), grandson of Arthur Glasgow, stated in 1913 that Joseph had 'followed his fathers family to Adams County, Ohio in the fall of 1806' but instead of traveling by way of Wythe County had gone 'by way of Greenbrier and Kanawha'." Religion
That Robert Glasgow and his family were Presbyterians is fairly certain. In "The Glasgow Family of Adams County, Ohio" by David Faris he has a long section on page 22 which states that they were originally Covenanters. He quotes the book "A History of Adams County, Ohio: From Its Earliest Settlement to the Present Time, Including Character Sketches of the Prominent Persons Identified with the First Century of the Country's Growth" by Nelson Wiley Evans & Emmons B Stivers about their role in the Brush Creek congregation of Covenanters (or Brush Creek church" with this sentence: "Among the most prominent families of Covenanters might be perpetuated the names of Reid, Burns, Glasgow, Milligan, Stevenson, Hemphill, Montgomery, Wright, Thompson, Wickerham, McKinley, Torrence, Foster, Mitechell, Copeland, Bayles, George, Ralston, Fulton, McIntire and many other worthies." But that same book (Nelson & Stivers" has this quote:

"Churches TRANQUILITY UP CHURCH This is the oldest church organization in the township and was formed in 1807 with John Milligan John Mc Cullough James Montgomery Alexander McCullough Robert Elliott James Wright David McCreight Sr David McCreight Jr Robert Glasgow and Joseph Glasgow and their families as members The first church building called Hopewell Metting House was a log structure erected about 1810 and was used for a church house for this congregation for forty years when in 1853 it was supplanted by the present frame building The congregation is a very large and wealthy one and was originally known as West Fork Association See history of UP Church under Wayne Township SCOTT TOWNSHIP 459" Evans, Nelson Wiley; Stivers, Emmons B, A History of Adams County, Ohio: From Its Earliest Settlement to the Present Time, Including Character Sketches of the Prominent Persons Identified with the First Century of the Country's Growth ... So perhaps Robert was more associated with the latter and his son William with Brush Creek. But they were definitely Covenanter Presbyterians who later became more moderate Presbyterians.

Current research
Robert's parents and grandparents are still unproved, but his relationship to Arthur Glasgow and Joseph Glasgow is now strong enough to mark the three men as certain brothers in profile prose. WikiTree cannot encode a sibling edge independently, so this does not make their present shared parents certain.

David Faris transcribed a family letter dated 6 November 1806 from Joseph and Betty Glasgow in Wythe County to Arthur Glasgow in Rockbridge County. Joseph addressed Arthur as his brother and referred to “brother robert.” The wording is contemporary relationship evidence, although the original letter still needs to be located and inspected.

Joseph's 1831 will independently calls the younger Robert Glasgow his nephew and the son of Joseph's deceased brother Arthur. That directly proves Joseph and Arthur were brothers. Together, the letter and will establish the Robert–Arthur–Joseph sibling cluster.

The evidence does not identify the brothers' father with James Glasgow or their mother with Mary Harkness. Faris calls Robert a son of “James Glasgow of Moneymore,” but the live James profile has conflicting dates and migration/death narratives and may combine more than one man.

Included in the wagon train were all the other children of Robert Glasgow and their families, with the exception of Robert's son Joseph who was also son-in-law of Robert's brother Arthur. Joseph Glasgow made his own scouting trip to Ohio. Francis Thomas Glasgow (1829-1916), grandson of Arthur Glasgow, stated in 1913 that Joseph had 'followed his fathers family to Adams County, Ohio in the fall of 1806' but instead of traveling by way of Wythe County had gone 'by way of Greenbrier and Kanawha'."<ref>Ibid, p 19</ref>

That Robert Glasgow and his family were Presbyterians is fairly certain.  In "The Glasgow Family of Adams County, Ohio" by David Faris he has a long section on page 22 which states that they were originally Covenanters.  He quotes the book "A History of Adams County, Ohio: From Its Earliest Settlement to the Present Time, Including Character Sketches of the Prominent Persons Identified with the First Century of the Country's Growth" by Nelson Wiley Evans & Emmons B Stivers about their role in the Brush Creek congregation of Covenanters (or Brush Creek church" with this sentence: "Among the most prominent families of Covenanters might be perpetuated the names of Reid, Burns, Glasgow, Milligan, Stevenson, Hemphill, Montgomery, Wright, Thompson, Wickerham, McKinley, Torrence, Foster, Mitechell, Copeland, Bayles, George, Ralston, Fulton, McIntire and many other worthies."<ref>Evans, Nelson Wiley; Stivers, Emmons B, A History of Adams County, Ohio: From Its Earliest Settlement to the Present Time, Including Character Sketches of the Prominent Persons Identified with the First Century of the Country's Growth ... Robert's parents and grandparents are still unproved, but his relationship to [[Glasgow-649|Arthur Glasgow]] and [[Glasgow-1543|Joseph Glasgow]] is now strong enough to mark the three men as '''certain brothers in profile prose'''. WikiTree cannot encode a sibling edge independently, so this does not make their present shared parents certain.

David Faris transcribed a family letter dated 6 November 1806 from Joseph and Betty Glasgow in Wythe County to Arthur Glasgow in Rockbridge County. Joseph addressed Arthur as his brother and referred to “brother robert.” The wording is contemporary relationship evidence, although the original letter still needs to be located and inspected.

Joseph's 1831 will independently calls the younger Robert Glasgow his nephew and the son of Joseph's deceased brother Arthur. That directly proves Joseph and Arthur were brothers. Together, the letter and will establish the Robert–Arthur–Joseph sibling cluster.
