Coverage, survival & limitations
Irish civil births, marriages and deaths
Civil indexes and images online cover births 1864–1925; marriages 1845–1950 (non-Roman Catholic from 1845, Roman Catholic from 1864); deaths generally 1871–1975, with earlier death material being added or patchy. An index hit is not itself an inspected register image.
Reading the evidence: an index, transcript, provider search page and original image are different sources. A recorded image link does not mean its reading or identity match is confirmed. Inspect the assessment and source page before changing a family relationship. Repository guides checked 4 October 2026.
Collected references 85
Reference items in this project, not the total surviving archive. A reference can appear in several types or locations; several references can concern the same record. Countries are inferred from source descriptions and recorded places, so check the citation. Undated and ambiguous items remain available.

- Stated on his US death certificate -- although these are more often wrong than right for Irish immigrants from this time
- The family used Irish naming standards for five of their other children. The first daughter should have been named after the mother's mother. Sarah's mother, Ann Brown Majors, had a death certificate that stated her name was Lucy Ann Brown. The other twin, Margarette Alice, was clearly named for Gil's mother, Margaret Brown Glasgow. So I surmised that the missing child was a twin girl named after Sarah's mother

- This information regarding the Kilwaughter James is commonly cited in Glasgow family histories but requires primary source verification for the death date and details. Secondary sources often cite a James Glasgow in Kilwaughter, Co. Antrim, appearing in the 1669 Hearth Money Rolls and dying c. 1726. Primary source verification is recommended. This individual is considered distinct from James Glasgow of Polwarth/Gordo
