Current conclusion

This profile is the Scottish Robert baptised at Glasgow High Kirk on 17 November
1618, lawful son of Robert Glasgow and Jonet Cunningham. It is **possible, but not
proved or presently probable**, that he was the Robert Glaskow represented by the
separate Irish profile [Glasgow-3970](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-3970),
living at Larne in 1653.

No inspected record gives the Larne man's age, Scottish origin, wife or child.
The profiles and their families must therefore remain separate.

The completed remote source pass found no record identifying the Larne Robert
as father, brother or other relative of the Kilwaughter householders. The 1666
subsidy roll `T/808/14889`, NRS `GD154/505–534`, PRONI `D/282/2–160` and
`MIC/1B/6` remain uninspected archive work. This strengthens the need to retain
separate profiles; it does not disprove a wider relationship.

The FT25406/FT20271 Y-DNA pattern does not validate this 1618 Glasgow-city
identification. The project labels are participant-supplied pedigrees, and no
public Big-Y tester is documented as a strict male-line descendant of Robert
and Jonet Cunningham. The result supports a broader Scottish/Scots-Irish
paternal cluster only.

New assessment

The 1653 transplantation material does not materially strengthen this
identification. Its surviving printed state names Captain James McCullogh in
the relevant east-Antrim quarter, while Young's Pinkerton-derived state also
names James Browne; a contemporary letter says the printed names contained a
serious mistake. Robert Glaskow appears in neither state. The dispute concerns
the Browne–McCullogh network around the Larne man, not a bridge to the child
baptised in Glasgow, and it supplies no Cunningham connection.

A further Scottish same-name cluster creates an alternative later-life lead.
On 4 July 1666 a Robert Glasgow, cordiner, became an Edinburgh burgess by right
of his wife Euphame, daughter of the deceased Andrew Lorimer, beltmaker and
burgess. Scotland's People indexes four children of Robert Glasgow and Euphame
Lorimer/Laurimer at Edinburgh or St Cuthbert's in 1651, 1659, 1662 and 1664.
That household brackets the separate 1652 marriage of a cordiner Robert Glasgow
to Jonet Thomsone and strongly weakens the former suggestion that the 1652 and
1666 records necessarily concern one man. WikiTree presently represents the
Euphame household with [Robert Glasgow
(Glasgow-1149)](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-1149), baptised at
Inveresk in 1627; the chronology and Midlothian setting fit, but no inspected
record yet joins that baptism to the adult household. The cluster increases
same-name ambiguity and supplies no bridge to the 1618 child.

The proposed earlier Glasgow burgess family, Ninian's testament and the 1613
cordiner admission are not new to this project: original testament work has
already established more of that family on the linked profiles. They should
not be presented here as a fresh migration bridge.

The Scotland's People index fixes the later Scottish event at 25 November 1645,
parish Glasgow, OPR `644/1`, reference `40/56`. The purchased original image
names James's godfathers as James Cunynghame and Johne Muir. This creates a
specific FAN lead but supplies no occupation, residence, age or parentage that
identifies the father as the child baptised in 1618.

An official Scotland's People search for an indexed Church of Scotland OPR
marriage of a Robert Glasgow anywhere in Scotland from 1630 through 1650
returned no result. The search used exact surname `Glasgow` and a begins-with
forename search for `Robert`, so it does not cover unindexed entries, register
gaps or spelling variants. It weakens reliance on an assumed Scottish marriage
record but is not evidence that the 1618 Robert left Scotland or never married.

The Argyll Estates Archives catalogue adds a new adult candidate: in 1666 a
**Robert Glasgow, master of the *John of Portrush***, gave a receipt for
transporting barrels of coal for the earl of Argyll. The item is in `GB 3452
ARG-04-03-67-78` (`PFV 67`). At age 48 the 1618 Robert could chronologically
have been this shipmaster, and the cross-channel setting is relevant to the
Larne hypothesis. Nothing in the catalogue, however, gives the man's age,
birthplace, residence, kin or connection to Larne. He must be treated as a new
same-name candidate, not an identity bridge.

The obvious customs follow-up is limited by record survival. The `E72`
port-book series starts in 1668, no Ayr or Irvine customs book for 1666 was
located in the fragmentary `E71` series, and the published surviving Ulster
port books are for 1612–1615. The original Argyll receipt is consequently the
best immediate source for identifying this shipmaster.

The published Glasgow Commissariot testament index has no Robert Glasgow entry
in its Glasgow surname section. This is only a negative for that commissariot
and index: it does not exclude an unindexed testament or one proved in Ayr,
Edinburgh or another court.

An NRS catalogue search adds a possible later continuation in the same broad
west-coast region. An Ayr sasine dated 6 August 1688 was written by **Robert
Glasgow, servitor to the notary** Alexander McDermeit, depute clerk of the
burgh. It is possible that a literate former shipmaster later worked for a
notary, but neither record supplies age, kin or birthplace. Handwriting and
signature comparison with the 1666 receipt is required before treating the two
records as one man; neither is presently identified with the 1618 child.

The original North Leith poll-tax page adds another adult namesake. On 3
October 1694 **Robert Glasgow** was one of four servants in the household of
Alexander Ainslie, explicitly styled clerk to the glass manufactory. A modern
thesis describes Robert as a glassmaker and dates the tax 1695, but the original
page calls him only a servant and is dated 1694. NRS `GD112/15/59`, item 24,
almost certainly supplies an earlier occurrence of the same man: on 16 July
1694 Robert Glasgow gave a receipt in Ainslie's name for bottles supplied to
the Earl of Breadalbane. This proves a functional and probably trusted role in
the glassworks business, though not the skilled occupation of glassmaker. At
age 76 the 1618 Robert could still have been living, yet nothing identifies him
with this Leith servant.

[Glasgow-3011](https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Glasgow-3011), baptised at
Glencorse in 1676, is a stronger younger alternative: he was seventeen in 1694,
is the sole exact-name Robert baptism returned there from 1640 through 1690,
and a same-name man married there in 1704. No Ainslie or glassworks link is
proved, but this weakens the 1694 occurrence as continuity evidence for the
1618 child.

Exact Leith OPR searches found no Glasgow/Glasgo/Glascow/Glaskow/Glassgow
baptism in 1694–1730 and no exact Robert Glasgow marriage in 1694–1710 or
burial in 1694–1730. Register survival and spelling limit the negative result.

The National Library of Scotland catalogue identifies the original minute
book of the Incorporation of Cordiners of Glasgow as `Adv.MS.32.4.10`, covering
1612–1682. This is the best newly located Scottish target for Robert the
elder's craft admission, master, cautioners, apprentices and any son named
Robert. NLS also holds a consultation microfilm as `Mf.Sec.MSS.2063`; no public
digital images were located. A 1975 compiled membership roll merely abbreviates his entry as
`BGS GLASGOW, Robert` and dates it 22 May 1613; the published Glasgow burgess
roll's detached date column maps the full “as heir of a burgess” entry to
22 April 1613. The secondary May date should not be propagated without checking
the manuscript.

The 1655 Glasgow absent-burgess lead can now be narrowed. The contemporary
town-council extract says that Cuthbert Robisoun was then in Ireland and
summarises another thirty named people, twelve of whom were resident in
Ireland; the printed extract suppresses those thirty names. Anderson's later
burgess roll, however, attaches the 18 August 1655 Ireland note to ten named
entries: Cuthbert Robisoun, John King, Allan Cuthbert, Samuel Wallace, Hew
Brown, William Gulliland, William Rodger, John Sinkler, Archibald Craig and
Robert Hamilton. None is Robert Glasgow. Two of the twelve Ireland residents
therefore remain unidentified from the printed collation. This is a modest
negative result, not proof that the 1618 Robert stayed in Scotland.

The Robert Glasgow who was master of the *John of Portrush* in 1666 should be
created as a distinct, unconnected profile. This profile's 1618 baptism makes
him chronologically possible, but no vessel, occupation, family, residence,
signature or exact-event bridge identifies him as the shipmaster. A name and
broad chronology alone are insufficient to absorb the record here.
