In 1688, he was appointed Minister of Kilbirnie in the Presbytery of Irvine. He held this post for over three decades, serving until his death in 1721. His tenure spanned the era following the Glorious Revolution, through the formal establishment of Presbyterianism as Scotland’s national church.

Legacy
Following John’s death, several of his children — Margaret, Janet, and Jean, along with their mother Margaret Scott and brother James Glasgow — were involved in a successful decree of adjudication against Patrick, Viscount of Garnock. The case involved rights to property in the new barony of Kilbirnie. A key legal document was an extract renunciation dated 21 July 1731, registered on 14 February 1733. National Records of Scotland. John should be placed in the wider William Glasgow descendant project, most probably in the Corsankell-Stevenston-Kilwinning branch. Calling him the root of a separate Ayrshire family was too strong.
