Early Glasgow profiles: fathers and remaining leads
Owned profiles with exact Glasgow surname at birth and an indexed birth or death year through 1600 inclusive; father links only.
46 profiles: 16 confident father links · 20 uncertain · 10 missing fathers · 0 unmarked links.
Reviewed all 21 uncertain father links and all 10 fatherless subjects against the existing cited biographies, maintained case evidence and candidate inventory. John’s sibling manuscript passage and published burgess entry were re-inspected. No new archival discovery is claimed.
One father relationship was upgraded on live WikiTree; no new father was attached. The brother John’s father is confidently inferred from Ninian’s 1596 admission and 1613 testament; his later marriage identity remains probable.
The follow-up search located a probable 1582 Bridgegait reference to Archibald Herbertsoun, fisher. It was added to Isobella’s live profile and source account. The remaining father arguments still leave an identity or family degree unresolved; this batch added no confident father link. The original Morton, Torphichen and Ayr sasine succession records remain priority archival sources; publicly available indexes do not supply their full text.

David Glasgow · Glasgow-1028 — father remains missing
Father: No father attached
Andrew Glasgow-3163 remains a possible father; no positive relationship or identity bridge has been found. The corrected testament does not name David as a son. This removes the claimed direct proof but omission from dispositive clauses does not exclude him as a child. No positive bridge establishes his father.
Source evidence: FamilySearch X1BJ-22S (Elspeth, 2 Mar 1606) and X1BJ-LR9 (Issobell, 3 May 1612) name David as father. Andrew's original testament, NRS CC8/8/32 images 123-124 (6 Feb 1597/8), names son Robert and daughters Marion, Jonet and Isobel, but no David.
Next question: Search Calder/Linlithgow land, rental or testament records for a patronymic.
John Glasgow · Glasgow-1030 — upgraded to confident
Father: Glasgow-1096
Ninian's 1596 burgess admission expressly names Robert Glasgow, fisher, as his father; Ninian's 1613 testament expressly calls John his brother. Shared surname, compatible chronology and Ninian's son Robert's appearance at the 1619 baptism support a common father. Confident combined-evidence inference for the record-defined brother represented by Glasgow-1030; identification with the 1618 Jonet Mathie husband remains probable.
Next question: Find an occupation/property bridge to the 1618 husband; father confidence applies to the record-defined brother.
Robert Glasgow · Glasgow-1096 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1098
William remains the leading probable father on the combined property/craft evidence. The Bridgegait/fisher John is not uniquely joined to William's Saltmarket son-and-heir, and the exact kinship degree remains unresolved; confidence is not withheld merely for lack of an explicit son clause.
Next question: Find an explicit succession or family settlement connecting Robert to William; the fisher network already supports a probable relationship.
Archibald Glasgow · Glasgow-1097 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1098
The Bargill-side property passed from Archibald's 1551 holding to a John by 1554/55. The unlocated transfer leaves that John's precise identity, transfer mechanism and family degree unresolved. William remains a probable father on strong circumstantial evidence; an identifying household/title bridge could establish confidence without an explicit son formula.
Next question: Locate the 1551–1554/55 transfer of Archibald’s Bargill-side parcel to John.
William Glasgow · Glasgow-1098 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1095
The exact Rankin–Young property sequence supports succession and probable kinship. Eufame Craig's 1564 conjunct fee/liferent leaves her deceased husband's forename blank, and neither the older John identity nor the exact degree is resolved. William's attached father remains a probable hypothesis.
Next question: Inspect BL/204 and the older Saltmarket title sequence for a son or heir clause.
Robert Glasgow · Glasgow-1156 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1097
The 1647 Duddingston burial does not name Robert's parents; Archibald's profile admits no record identifies Robert as his son.
Next question: Follow Andrew’s Corsoun son Robert through land or Stevenson family evidence into Duddingston.
James Glasgow · Glasgow-1168 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1098
Corsinkell records directly establish James's sons James and John, but provide no link from James elder to William.
Next question: Find a Glasgow-burgh to Corsankell tenant succession, patronymic or estate bridge.
Jonet Glasgow · Glasgow-1494 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1557
The cited 1628 testament index identifies Jonet’s spouse but supplies no father; Edward’s attachment is a working hypothesis.
Next question: Inspect the underlying 1628 testament beyond the spouse-only calendar entry for an Edward link.
Catherine Glasgow · Glasgow-1495 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-3921
Katherine's 1605 testament calendar names her spouse only; James of Corsankell is compatible by place/generation but is not named as parent.
Next question: Follow Stevenston Weir and Corsankell property succession for Katherine’s birth family.
Edward Glasgow · Glasgow-1557 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-3921
No identified birth, baptismal, testamentary, or other relational record names Edward's father; locality and naming are insufficient.
Next question: Find an Edward record naming a parent or a household/property bridge to James of Corsankell.
John Glasgow · Glasgow-1561 — father remains missing
Father: No father attached
Andrew Glasgow-3163 remains a possible father; no positive relationship or identity bridge has been found. The child baptisms prove the Linlithgow father but do not identify the adult's father.
Source evidence: FamilySearch X1RX-HPB, X1RV-T8R and X1RN-XV7 name John as father of Jean (1613), John (1617) and George (1622), Linlithgow. CC8/8/32 images 123-124 names Andrew's children Robert, Marion, Jonet and Isobel, not John.
Next question: Search Calder/Linlithgow land, rental or testament records for a patronymic.
Hugh Glasgow · Glasgow-1603 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-991
Hugh's identity and Ayrshire association are uncertain; James's documented Calder/Inveresk household conflicts geographically and no record names Hugh.
Next question: Establish Hugh’s household and locality, then test the Ayrshire and Calder candidates.
Alan Glasgow · Glasgow-3023 — father remains missing
Father: No father attached
John Glasgw of Stirling (Space:John_Glasgw_of_Stirling), active 1475-1480; possible father/brother/uncle-generation comparison, no exact relationship. Stirling and Jedburgh have no shared associate/property/kin bridge; the record cannot distinguish father from brother, nephew or unrelated namesake.
Source evidence: Pitcairn, Criminal Trials, vol. I pt. I, p. 19, prints the Jedburgh justice-ayre remission for the 'Slaughter of Alan Glasgw'; underlying NRS JC1/1. It names Pilmure and surety Ralph Ker, no kin. The correct date is 1495, not the misprinted 1594-5.
Next question: Search the Jedburgh and Stirling records for a kinship, property or associate bridge.
Isabella Glasgow · Glasgow-3026 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1097
Isabella's 1600 property record proves her marriage only; published-protocol search found no statement of her parentage.
Next question: Trace Isabella and the dyer John Howe’s property; the other Howe household is not a parental bridge.
William Glasgow · Glasgow-3075 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-3188
The damaged William passage does not securely establish him as Ninian's son, and no record joins the later Leith mealmaker to Ninian's household. William's own son Archibald is independently well documented.
Next question: Resolve the damaged William clause and seek a Glasgow-to-Leith identity bridge.
Andrew Glasgow · Glasgow-3163 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1093
Andrew's 1597/8 Corsoun testament identifies his own household, while John-1093's proved family is Glasgow burgh; no parent is named or bridge supplied.
Next question: Search Caldercleir/Morton rentals and sasines for Andrew’s parent or earlier holding.
Geillis Glasgow · Glasgow-3179 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-3921
Geillis's testament identifies husband/estate but not parents; debt owed to a James Glasgow in Stevenston has no stated kinship.
Next question: Follow the testament’s James Glasgow creditor through Stevenston land and family records.
John Glasgow · Glasgow-3181 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1093
Protocols directly name John-1093's son John, but no inspected record carries that burgh son into the Hirmanscheillis estate. The testator died before the 4 May 1577 proceeding; the exact death year remains unresolved.
Next question: Connect the directly named Glasgow-burgh son John to the Hirmanscheillis estate by property or occupation.
Barbara Glasgow · Glasgow-3182 — father remains missing
Father: No father attached
Ninian Glasgow (Glasgow-3188), possible father or uncle. The two dates may be proclamation and marriage. Barbara may also be the Little mother Glasgow-567 or Johnstoun wife Glasgow-3302; no continuity or father wording exists.
Source evidence: South Leith OPR 692/2 90/219 gives Barbara Glasgow and Johne Wilsoune, 20 Sep 1611; FamilySearch XYML-ZBB gives 26 Nov 1611. Ninian's 1613 testament (CC9/7/9 images 142-145) proves son Robert and names no Barbara. Robert was a cordiner; Ninian's possible son William was in Leith, making the craft/locality pattern a useful lead.
Next question: Inspect original marriage entries and cordiner incorporation records for a father or named cautioner.
John Glasgow · Glasgow-3296 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1029
1650 Quodquen testament proves only John and Bessie as siblings and names no parent; no bridge identifies him with Stephen's documented family.
Next question: Find a Quodquen property or patronymic bridge to Stephen’s household.
Barbara Glasgow · Glasgow-3302 — father remains missing
Father: No father attached
Ninian Glasgow (Glasgow-3188), possible father or uncle. No parent, age or birthplace in marriage. It may be one woman with Glasgow-3182/Glasgow-567, but that is unresolved.
Source evidence: Edinburgh OPR 685/1/430/109 and FamilySearch XYMH-HZJ record Barbara Glasgow marrying cordiner George Johnstoun, 21 Nov 1616. Paton, Register of Marriages, p. 267, confirms his trade. Ninian's proven son Robert was a cordiner, but Ninian's testament does not name Barbara.
Next question: Inspect original marriage entries and cordiner incorporation records for a father or named cautioner.
Margaret Glasgow · Glasgow-3598 — father remains missing
Father: No father attached
Ninian Glasgow (Glasgow-3188), possible father or uncle. The compact craft cluster supports a household/collateral hypothesis, not a particular parent edge.
Source evidence: Edinburgh OPR 685/1/430/84; FamilySearch XYMK-1QM; Paton, p. 267: Margaret married William Hardie, cordiner, 16 Jul 1611. The page also has Barbara-Johnstoun and Isobel-Symountoun craft marriages. Ninian's proven son Robert was a cordiner; Ninian's will names no Margaret.
Next question: Inspect original marriage entries and cordiner incorporation records for a father or named cautioner.
Margaret Glasgow · Glasgow-3613 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1096
Margaret's 1578 testament gives no parentage; shared surname and chronology do not bridge rural Croftmalloch to Robert the Glasgow fisher.
Next question: Follow Croftmalloch/Easton/Kaddell property records for Margaret’s birth family.
Matthew Glasgow · Glasgow-3908 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1168
Matthew appears in 1559-60 teind material; locality and generation allow James as father, uncle, or collateral, and no record names the relationship.
Next question: Follow the 1559–60 teind tenancy into an heir or patronymic statement.
Michael Glasgow · Glasgow-3911 — father remains missing
Father: No father attached
James elder Glasgow-1168 is a possible brother or cousin; no father identified. Birth estimates do not establish an exact age gap. Focused web result independently reproduces the 1559-60 Brakpleuch and Dubbs entries, but none gives a patronymic or heir/sibling term.
Source evidence: NRS GD39/1/59, 28 Jan 1549, names Michael as a Stevenston sasine witness. Sanderson, People of Sixteenth Century Ayrshire, p.331 (underlying Register of Acts and Decreets vol.22), lists Michael at Brakpleuch and Dubbs in 1559-60, alongside the neighbouring Corsankell Glasgows.
Next question: Search the Glencairn tenant succession records for a named parent or heir.
Elizabeth Glasgow · Glasgow-3915 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1098
1552 record identifies Elizabeth as Alexander Kaine's relict; it does not distinguish daughter from sister, niece, or another relative of William.
Next question: Distinguish daughter, sister or niece using the Calder/Kaine estate and liferent records.
Isobella Glasgow · Glasgow-3916 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-1098
Her husband's role in John's inherited-property sale and repeated fisher/property associations make William a leading probable father. New protocol 2370 extends the probable husband's Bridgegait network to 1582, but does not identify Isobella's exact place in William's family. The combined evidence still leaves that step unresolved.
Source evidence: Newly located Renwick vol. 8 protocol 2370, 18 Jan 1581/82, pp. 36–37: Archibald Herbertsoun, fisher, as a Bridgegait boundary owner; printed pages visually checked. Probable husband continuity, no named Glasgow kin.
Next question: Seek a family settlement or succession connecting Isobella herself to William’s inherited parcel.
Jonet Glasgow · Glasgow-3917 — retain uncertain
Father: Glasgow-3522
1599 burgess admission says William Pady married a burgess's daughter but names neither wife nor father; it cannot identify William Glasgow as Jonet's father.
Next question: Identify Pady’s unnamed burgess father-in-law, and test the competing Corsoun Jonet identity.
Robert Glasgow · Glasgow-4063 — father remains missing
Father: No father attached
No age, origin, occupation or relative. The apparent 1541 birth estimate derived from a death-only record is unusable.
Source evidence: Norfolk Record Office PD 608/1; Findmypast GBPRS/NORFOLK/BUR/004320950 is a death/burial entry only (reported manuscript wording 'Robertus Glasgow[e] obijt').
Next question: Seek an earlier Holkham record identifying occupation, origin or a relative.
John Glasgow · Glasgow-4152 — father remains missing
Father: No father attached
No father candidate. Glasgow-1030 is not the present identity match; a future household or property bridge could resolve that separate identity question. No record names the sailor's parent; no occupation, residence, spouse or child bridge joins him to Glasgow-1030.
Source evidence: NRS Glasgow Commissary CC9/7/27 pp.478-480: John, sailor in Saltcoats, died Dec 1636; widow Isobell Gray administered for lawful children Katherine and Agnes. It proves John as their father. Glasgow-1030's distinct Glasgow household married Jonet Mathie in 1618 and had documented city children 1619-34.
Next question: Search Saltcoats land, maritime and estate records for a parent or inherited holding.
James Glasgow · Glasgow-991 — father remains missing
Father: No father attached
Andrew Glasgow-3163 remains a possible father; no positive relationship or identity bridge has been found. The six baptisms may represent one mobile James or two contemporaries. They establish record-defined children, not James's father or a link to Andrew.
Source evidence: FamilySearch X1BK-1BW, X1BJ-L51 and X1BL-JXY name James as Mid Calder father in 1605, 1610 and 1616; XTRF-FQX, VQ4V-K87 and XTRJ-SZX name a James at Inveresk/Musselburgh in 1609, 1614 and 1618. Andrew's CC8/8/32 testament names Robert, Marion, Jonet and Isobel, no James.
Next question: Search Calder/Linlithgow land, rental or testament records for a patronymic.

All supplied entries retain their original index provenance. The 30 September profile review links exact existing couples and compatible record-specific candidates, keeping unresolved identity and event-type questions explicit.
Source: Scotland’s People: Old Parish Registers — banns and marriages. Surname Glasgow, exact names only, through 1700; all 55 supplied results across three pages. Reviewed 2026-09-30 from the supplied index text; original register images have not been inspected for this batch.
The collection combines banns and marriages. An index date alone does not establish a wedding date. Spouse spellings, alternatives and the explicit “groom surname assumed” warning are preserved below. The William/Marion Glasgow entries on 10 June 1681 are reciprocal results for one register entry.

| AGNES GLASGOW WILLIAM THOMSONE/FR70 (FR70) | 15 Dec 1681 OPR 633/10 / 66 | Carstairs | Possible: Glasgow-2460 Possible: Glasgow-993 Possible: Glasgow-3092 Possible: Glasgow-1562 Possible: Glasgow-1312 Possible: Glasgow-1408 Possible: Glasgow-1441 Possible: Glasgow-4123 Possible: Glasgow-4133 Possible: Glasgow-4151 Possible: Thomson-263 Current identity draft Record identity review | HOLD — compatible profile linked The supplied index records AGNES Glasgow and WILLIAM THOMSONE/FR 70 (FR 70) at Carstairs on 1681-12-15. The linked candidates fit this occurrence by recorded name and chronology. The best local/dated candidates are listed first; any loose before-date legacy lead remains lower-ranked unless actual family or life-span evidence excludes it. No identity or family attachment is asserted solely from a same-name group. | Compare the linked record-specific candidates and original household details. |
| BESSIE GLASGOW JAMES JUSTICE/FR60 (FR60) | 23 Sep 1627 OPR 694/10 / 55 | Mid Calder | Glasgow-1054 | KNOWN The same indexed couple and date are already represented on the existing live profile; this is confirming source evidence. | Retain the exact OPR locator in the evidence notes; no new update is raised. |
| MARGARET GLASGOW JAMES STEWART/ | 4 Jul 1632 OPR 644 / 1/230 / 109 | Glasgow | Glasgow-1100 Stewart-62608 | matched — already cited/conflict retained 4 Jul 1632 Glasgow index is already preserved; 7 Apr structured value remains unresolved. | Inspect original before changing a date. |
| MARION GLASGOW JOHN BRUCE/FR1163 (FR1163) | 4 Jul 1684 OPR 685 / 1/440 / 251 | Edinburgh | Possible: Glasgow-3143 Possible: Glasgow-3025 Possible: Glasgow-3049 Possible: Glasgow-4095 Possible: Glasgow-1428 Possible: Glasgow-3062 Possible: Bruce-6113 Possible: Bruce-3507 Current identity draft Record identity review | HOLD — compatible profile linked The printed marriage register adds John Bruce’s trade of smith, independently of the generic OPR index. Glasgow-3143 is already supported as Marion who married the Edinburgh weaver William Calder in June 1686; that established life segment is not transferred into this 1684 event. Bruce-6113 represents Sir John Bruce of Kinross with the 1687 Christian Leslie marriage, whereas Bruce-3507 has only a speculative Clackmannan son whose own profile explicitly leaves his baptism/parentage open. Neither inspected family supplies this smith-and-Marion couple. Different spouses alone are not exclusions; keep both candidate husbands qualified and the events separate. | Compare the linked record-specific candidates and original household details. |
| ----- GLASGOW ... SMITH/FR233 (FR233) | 6 Aug 1687 OPR 599/10 / 325 | Kilwinning | Glasgow-3087 | HOLD — possible companion entry The blank-name Glasgow and Smith entry may accompany the named John/Bessie entry one week earlier at the preceding reference; the identities remain unproved. | Inspect both Kilwinning entries; qualified note queued on Glasgow-3087. |
| ----- GLASGOW MARGARET /FR801 GROOM SURNAME ASSUMED (FR801) | 24 Jul 1679 OPR 491/30 / 15 | Strathblane | Current identity draft Record identity review | UNNAMED — original needed The supplied index records ----- Glasgow and MARGARET /FR 801 GROOM SURNAME ASSUMED (FR 801) at Strathblane on 1679-07-24. The groom has no given name and his Glasgow surname is explicitly assumed; Margaret has no surname. Neither entry defines a searchable distinct person. Preserve one documentary account; do not invent a child, parents or independent profiles. | Use the sourced record draft; original review remains open. |
| THOMAS GLASGOW CATHARINE WEIR/FR856 (FR856) | 12 Oct 1643 OPR 685 / 1/430 / 252 | Edinburgh | Glasgow-3187 Weir-3979 | KNOWN Exact Thomas/Catharine household; 1644–50 children corroborate the couple. | No reopening; retain source evidence in findings. |
| EUPHAM GLASGOW ALEXANDER HUTCHESON/FR1043 (FR1043) | 8 Dec 1671 OPR 685 / 1/440 / 129 | Edinburgh | Possible: Glasgow-3358 Possible: Glasgow-1167 Possible: Hutcheson-361 Record identity review | HOLD — compatible profile linked The printed Edinburgh register identifies Alexander as a tailor and dates his marriage to Eupham to 8 December 1671. The same-name tailor’s Edinburgh burgess admission on 22 June 1670 records apprenticeship to the late Alexander Thomsone (31 January 1655); this is a strong occupational lead for the groom, not a father clause. Thomsone is a master, not a parent. Eupham Glasgow-3358’s 1651 Edinburgh child index names Robert Glasgow/Eupham Lorimer; Glasgow-1167’s 1634 event has a documented Glasgow/Glassford father conflict. Neither child-to-bride identification is proved. The Channelkirk September event is provisionally one-couple related but stays a distinct register occurrence. Rev. Alexander Hutcheson-361 is retained as a lower-ranked candidate: his estimated 1630–1640 birth and unknown wife do not conflict by themselves, though his 1653 divinity degree and Scottish/Down ministry differ materially from the recorded Edinburgh tailor. A country-only filter was insufficient to reject him; no merger, marriage attachment or father inference follows. | Compare the linked record-specific candidates and original household details. |
| JAMES GLASGOW JEAN DOBIE OR WOOD FR1321 (FR1321) | 28 Jul 1698 OPR 685 / 1/450 / 47 | Edinburgh | Glasgow-3103 Glasgow-3368 | UPDATE — adult identity unresolved The 1698 adult marriage is already attached to Glasgow-3103, but neither the 1679 nor 1680 child is proved to be that adult. The index adds Jean’s alternative surname “or Wood”. | Add the alternative surname qualification to the existing case; preserve uncertain spouse/children and keep the brothers separate. |
| JEAN GLASGOW ROBERT WOODSYD/FR357 (FR357) | 13 Jan 1700 OPR 620/20 / 77 | West Kilbride | Possible: Glasgow-3088 Possible: Glasgow-3364 Possible: Glasgow-3528 Possible: Glasgow-1163 Possible: Glasgow-3083 Possible: Glasgow-3055 Possible: Glasgow-4113 Possible: Woodside-784 Current identity draft Record identity review | HOLD — compatible profile linked The supplied index records JEAN Glasgow and ROBERT WOODSYD/FR 357 (FR 357) at West Kilbride on 1700-01-13. |
| JEAN GLASGOW WILLIAM MITCHELL/FR1078 (FR1078) | 16 Dec 1675 OPR 685 / 1/440 / 164 | Edinburgh | Possible: Glasgow-1163 Possible: Glasgow-3083 Possible: Glasgow-3055 Possible: Glasgow-4113 Possible: Mitchell-54981 Current identity draft Record identity review | HOLD — compatible profile linked The inspected printed page calls William Mitchell a merchant in his marriage to Jean on 16 December 1675. Mitchell-54981’s attached daughter Mary Mitchell-54795 explicitly questions her own paternal assignment; the Carolina birth placement is estimated and its 1720 deed does not establish this William’s identity. It is not used to exclude an earlier/later marriage. Glasgow-1163’s 1650 Edinburgh child index names Thomas Glasgow/Catharine Weir; it is a compatible local child candidate, not proof that those are the bride’s parents. | Compare the linked record-specific candidates and original household details. |
| JOHNE GLASGOW MARGARET CURRIE/FR45 (FR45) | 25 Jul 1673 OPR 690/10 / 70 | Kirknewton and East Calder | Glasgow-3012 Currie-4998 | KNOWN The same indexed couple and date are already represented on the existing live profile; this is confirming source evidence. | Retain the exact OPR locator in the evidence notes; no new update is raised. |

| ALISONE GLASGOW GEORGE CARGILL/FR918 (FR918) | 11 Mar 1651 OPR 685 / 1/440 / 8 | Edinburgh | Current identity draft Record identity review | DRAFT — no compatible profile found The printed page identifies George Cargill as bookseller and Alison as his bride on 11 March 1651. A nearby George Cargill, printer, marries Elspeth Orme in 1663; it is a second documentary occurrence and is not asserted to be the same husband. Newly completed Allison/Alesoun/Alisoun Glasgow and Alisone/Alice Glesgow API variants returned no historical Open candidate. Neither bookseller’s parentage nor Alison’s father is given here. | Use the sourced record draft; original review remains open. |

This is the same named local couple. The supplied entry supplies their 1676 event date, whose banns/marriage distinction still requires the original. | Use the existing couple. Inspect the original only to refine event type and reading; no new profiles are needed. |

| EFFIE GLASGOW ALEXANDER HUTCSHESONE/FR123 (FR123) | 17 Sep 1671 OPR 729/10 / 230 | Channelkirk | Possible: Glasgow-3358 Possible: Glasgow-1167 Possible: Hutcheson-361 Record identity review | HOLD — compatible profile linked Channelkirk 17 September 1671 Effie–Alexander Hutchesone is kept as a distinct event, provisionally associated with the Edinburgh 8 December 1671 Eupham–Alexander tailor event. Same couple is plausible under Effie/Eupham and Hutcheson variants, but the difference of parish and date does not establish banns followed by marriage or identity with a named father. The occupational fact read at Edinburgh is not assigned as a quoted Channelkirk fact. |
| GEORG GLASGOW ISOBELL YOUNG/FR221 (FR221) | 5 Aug 1680 OPR 599/10 / 313 | Kilwinning | Glasgow-2714 | UPDATE — unresolved identity The 1680 Isobell Young entry supplies a new comparison for George’s Young/Gardiner problem; Isobell is not automatically Jonet Young, and the George identity is unproved. | Add a qualified research note; compare original 1678 and 1680 entries without a new spouse attachment. |

| MARIONE GLASGOW JOHNE RAIT/FR961 (FR961) | 28 Jun 1659 OPR 685 / 1/440 / 48 | Edinburgh | Possible: Glasgow-3049 Possible: Glasgow-4095 Possible: Glasgow-3062 Possible: Glasgow-3143 Possible: Glasgow-1428 Possible: Reid-24609 Current identity draft Record identity review | HOLD — compatible profile linked The printed register preserves surname Rait (Raite/Rate), John’s trade as tailor and the 28 June 1659 marriage to Marion. Reid-24609 represents the Edinburgh Reid–Helen Henderson family, with son George Reade-97 in Maryland; the surname is a weaker phonetic lead and no tailor/Marion bridge is established. The unrestricted Raitt search and full biographies identify Raitt-2 as the 1806 Captain and Raitt-360 as the 1866-born Western Australian butcher, excluding both concretely. Other printed Rait entries do not identify this husband’s father. | Compare the linked record-specific candidates and original household details. |

Thomas Glasgow-1449 is newly excluded by his represented later family: father Glasgow-1382 is explicitly born about 1766 and dies 1851; mother Christine Davidson has documented motherhood of Nathaniel in 1774, incompatible with being the mother of a 1679 adult. Glasgow-1226 remains a weaker possibility because fatherhood through 1735 would imply an older father but is not impossible. Graduate Glasgow-3413’s 1670 degree does not establish his assumed Thomas Glasgow-3187 father, and the 1660 burgess entry gives no father. Newly searched Gellies/Gilles/Giles Spence/Spens/Spense yielded no historical woman; the Tudor male Spencer lead remains excluded. | Compare the linked record-specific candidates and original household details. |

Father John Williamson-14320’s inspected child profiles preserve Kirkcaldy index entries with Christian Turpie in 1674, 1677 and 1680, plus their 1655 marriage and her 1690 death entry. This continuing named-couple sequence conflicts with identifying him as the Edinburgh Alison bridegroom and is a substantive competing-household exclusion, not merely another spouse’s name. Son Williamson-14321, baptised 1657, is still a compatible but young candidate with no child or occupation bridge. Alison remains without a compatible profile; the row’s spouse candidates must not change her own no-profile status. | Compare the linked record-specific candidates and original household details. |

Scotland’s People OPR deaths to 1700
One exact match is already cited. Two entries are probable matches to existing children; the 1641 Jon has two competing candidates. The Linlithgow entry exposes a misread other-details field. Janet at Polwarth and the unnamed Dirleton subject remain unlinked. Four existing profiles have new qualified notes or a correction queued. These are user-supplied official index results, not newly inspected register images; collection coverage does not establish all historical deaths. Dates are index-event dates until the original distinguishes death, burial or another entry.

John may be an associated person. His assigned death remains uncertain. | Correct the biography; retain the existing date/location uncertain while OPR 668/70/653 is inspected. Do not invent a child. |
| ELIZABETH GLASGOW | ----- | 16 Mar 1657 · 754/10 / 30 | Polwarth | Glasgow-3362 | Probable match — new evidence | Same name and parish as the child recorded 17 August 1656, seven months earlier. No age or parent in this death/burial row proves the match. | Add the probable identification in prose; inspect OPR 754/10/30 before assigning an exact death. |
| JANET GLASGOW | TOD / WILLIAM GLASGOW | 25 Dec 1675 · 754/10 / 113 | Polwarth | — | Unlinked identity — HOLD | The index may identify Janet Tod and a spouse or associate William Glasgow. Tod as birth surname and the relationship to William require the original. Live searches found no compatible Janet profile. This does not identify William as the father of the 1656/1658 Polwarth children. | Read OPR 754/10/113 for the exact name and kin term. Compare the Polwarth household without attaching Janet to Glasgow-2462 or Glasgow-1605. |
| JON GLASGOW | JON GLASGOW | 23 Aug 1641 · 684/60 / 24 | Duddingston | Glasgow-1559, Glasgow-3014 | Competing candidates — HOLD | The children recorded in April 1639 and January 1638 both fit the name and parish. The latter’s possible 1638 death would exclude him if confirmed. No age or kin term distinguishes the 1641 subject. | Add the candidate comparison as a research note; inspect OPR 684/60/24 and 60/16 before matching or creating a person. |
| ROBERT GLASGOW | ----- | 17 Jan 1647 · 684/60 / 47 | Duddingston | Glasgow-1156 | Existing match — already recorded | Exact name, date, parish and reference already appear in the live profile as a burial. This batch supplies no new fact requiring a fresh WikiTree update. | Retain the supporting index and existing relationship uncertainties; do not reopen an update merely for a confirming citation. |
| JON GLASGOW | JOHNE GLASGOW | 15 Jan 1638 · 684/60 / 16 | Duddingston | Glasgow-3014 | Probable match — new evidence | The child recorded on 11 January 1638 in the same parish is a strong candidate four days later. The other-details name supports comparison but is not an explicit father statement. | Add a probable identification in prose; inspect OPR 684/60/16 for identity and event type before entering an exact death. |
