William Agnew’s lease of Ballykeel to Robert Glasgow is dated 13 February 1738 Old Style (1739 by modern reckoning) and was registered on 22 May 1742. Its three lives are Robert, “Jas Glasgow Junr” and Rachel “otherwise Wilson Wife to the sd Robt Glasgow”; it names no second James and gives Robert no residence.

Finding supported

Read on the saved register images of memorial 74015 by two readers. “Junior” points to an older namesake and states no relationship. No live WikiTree change.

Family relationships

The assessment that John and James Glascho of Kilwaughter Demesne (1669) were probably close kin is lowered to possible.

Finding qualified

The evidence is consecutive hearth-roll entries with the same uncommon spelling. The men named John and James of 1700-01 never appear in the same minute and are tied to the 1669 householders only by unproved continuity. Brother, father and son, uncle and nephew, and cousin are all open. Nothing is detached on WikiTree.

New records

The Larne session minutes naming John Glasgow, sen., Robert Glasgow and James Glasgow belong to 1700 and 1701, not 1699 and 1700. John and Robert were stipend bondsmen for Kilwaughter and the South Side on 17 May 1700; James was made overseer for Kilwaughter probably on Thursday 29 May 1701.

Finding qualified

Porter prints the minutes under 1699 and 1700 from a manuscript copy of the session record. He corrects the stipend run to 1700 himself and the weekdays confirm it; the 1701 date for James is an inference from the weekdays. The minutes state no relationship between the three men. Life details

The Robert Glasgow marked “turned out” on the Larne session list of 1721-1769 and the Robert Glasgow of the discipline minute of 17 May 1747 are one man, probably Robert Glasgow of Kilwaughter (Glasgow-1143) and not the Robert of 1700-01.

Finding qualified

Porter’s footnote ties the list note to the 1747 minute. The identification rests on age (the older Robert would have been in his late sixties or more) and Kilwaughter residence; no record states it, and a third Robert cannot be excluded. No live WikiTree change.

Dates & places

Rachel Wilson’s birth “about 1680” has no source and would make her 51, 53 and 58 at the baptisms of her children in 1731, 1733 and 1738. The records allow about 1690 to 1712.

Finding qualified

An estimate: it assumes a bride of at least about 17 in November 1729 and a mother of no more than about 48 in November 1738. The marriage and baptisms are known from a derivative register chronology. The WikiTree date is queued for review, not changed.

Dates & places

Robert Glasgow of Kilwaughter was alive on 20 December 1764, when he leased half of Ballykeel to Hugh Shannon, and probably in April 1772. “About 1772” is a last sighting, not a death estimate, and “about 1710” would make him a groom of 19; about 1708 or earlier fits the records.

Finding qualified

No record gives his age or his death. The 1772 declaration’s date and Kilwaughter heading are known only second-hand. The WikiTree dates are queued for review, not changed.

New records

The ruling elder James Glasgow of the General Synod rolls is printed beside William Taylor of Drumaul in 1698 and 1703 and beside James Scott of Duneane in 1705; Larne’s own elder in 1703 was James Caldwell. He is probably not James Glasgow of Kilwaughter.

Finding qualified

The rolls print no congregation for an elder. That the 1705 elder is the man of 1698 and 1703 is possible, not established. No Glasgow is printed as Larne’s elder in any roll from 1694 to 1720, which shows only who represented Larne at Synod. No live WikiTree change.

New records

Porter prints one pall entry for William Glasgow: in 1734 the new pall “was to be lodged with William Glasgow Major”. The mortcloth receipts of 1739/40, 1741 and 1743 are not in Porter; they come from a derivative account of the session book.

Finding qualified

“Major” may mean “the elder” (possible only). The later receipts stay unverified until PRONI MIC/1B/6 is read. No live WikiTree change.

Family relationships

The 20 December 1764 Ballykeel lease by Robert Glasgow to Hugh Shannon expressly includes “Jas Glasgow son of the sd Robt” among the lease lives. This independently corroborates Robert Glasgow-1143 as James Glasgow-1144’s father.

Finding qualified

Original registered memorial inspected. It expressly names James as Robert’s son, but does not give James’s mother, age or later American residence.

The original 10 March 1736 Newtown of Larne lease names William and Hugh Glasgow as joint lessees of two north-side tenements. Its measuring lives are George II, Frederick Prince of Wales and Prince William Augustus.

Finding qualified

Original registered memorial inspected; the date corrects the former 12 March reading. Royal lives are not relatives; no brotherhood or parentage is stated.

New records

A deed dated 12 May 1772 names Wm Glasgow of Larne as a witness; it was registered on 9 November 1784.

Finding qualified

Original manuscript inspected. No age, occupation or relative distinguishes the older and younger William; registration does not establish survival to 1784.
